Jurien Bay - 4th September

Hi Guys,

Went out on Saturday with Whitey from seasport Charters.

The Boat departed just before 6am and withjust a short boat trip out to our first stop we were greeted with some rampaging Samson fish. As usually we were all dancing around the boat  but having a great time kepping the deckie busy with knotted lines.

For the next few hours we fished the outer bombies and managed to get into some nice fish. We ended up with Baldies, Pinkies, Breaksea, Dhuies, Harlequin fish, Skippy and my personal favourite a Queen snapper on a Fanky Jig.

Once we hit the boat limit for demersals we had a stop at the wreck and another nice samson fish was brought to surface with another dropped. The biggest Samson fish tipped the scales at 25 Kgs

A huge thankyou to Whitey and the crew from Seasport charters for making this trip possible.

I believe we were fishing in the 40-50m range. I thought one bombie was a little deeper.

For our next trip, we should make it just jigs and plastics.

No bait or Gulp. I'm screwed that means, haha.

Will have to get Honsu or Whitey to teach me how to fish with jigs properly.

For that, I'm keeping your esky.

You got to teach me how to use light jigs properly dude. Whitey was getting heaps of hits with very little rod action.

Also need to learn how best to work the Mcarthy sp's at 60m depth.

I've come to my own conclusion that there is no sport in dangling a patenostra jig over the side of the boat and winching up anything that latches onto it!

Nice Catch

Mon, 2010-09-06 18:22

Sounds like a mint day out. Good to hear the fish are still on the bite, I just got to Jurien not long ago, got a house for the rest of the week with a few mates. Brought up our boat also, hoping to land my first ever Dhu and Sambo. Where abouts did u guys catch ur demersals? Any info would help and be greatly appreciated, this is my first time in Jurien and i don't know the area. Cheers in advance.
