Jurien Bay for Easter
Hi all
Team gates is heading up to Jurien Bay tomorrow for 5 days and the weather forecast isn't looking too flash for fishing out wide.
As we've not been there before, was looking for some guidance from seasoned Jurien bayers on what to expect with the current weather conditions?
Friday looks the best day, but I've been told that it gets quite windy up there and you don't want to be out on the water when it comes up....pretty normal for most places really, but I'd rather err on the side of caution for our first trip there.
I'd rather fish from the beach than risk going out if the conditions aren't any good, but was also wondering whether there's shelter within the bay or close inshore for some light tackle boat fishing....if so, what's the target species...herring, whiting, skippy, tailor, etc...all good stuff in my book.
Thanks in advance of your comments.
regards

PS. if there's any other FW members up there, hope we bump into each other...will be good to put a face to the names!
Have a safe and enjoyable Easter

r.gates just come back
from Leeman today, good luck on fishing from the beach, Jurien is full of weed, as well as Leeman, dirty water as well. If you find a beach without weed, the water looks like brown soup, very dirty.

In shore is real dirty brown
apparently off shore in Leeman is ok but the tide is running a pig and some fisho's in Leeman have been using 4lb sinkers to hold bottom, but that was 6days ago.
There was heaps of boats out last Friday week at the Jurien Bay ramps we were eating fish and chips down there but don't know what fisho's caught as we left about 1.30pm (head back to Leeman) and all still out.
Hope the water in close has cleared up a bit for you all.
Don't forget to log on to sea rescue and log off when returning in.

there is sheltered areas to
there is sheltered areas to fish inside the islands if the winds are favourable.if going outside i would suggest the north passage if the swell is up as it can be dangerous. the marks should be on your gps. as far as ground out there to fish, there is plenty, just get out there and have a look.
good luck. one thing you can do tho is go and see sea rescue for the latest weather reports and dont be scared to ask questions.

Thanks FF
You make a good point about talking with the local sea rescue people, they're the ones with their fingers on the pulse!
My GPS has the passages marked, so does the chart I bought recently.
About to hit the road, looking forward to getting up there and checking out the place....I'll post a report next week, even if we don't catch any fish.

A bad day of fishing is better than a good day of work.
