Jurien Bay trip
Hi All,
Finally managed to pick a perfect wk end to head up to Jurien bay for our long awaited fishing trip, my mates father in law is a jurien guru and has been fishing the local jurien ground for years - we had been looking forward to this for ages for the old fellah to take us out and show us what he knows.
There had been alot of banter between us leading up to this trip as it was bait vs jigs, the young bucks vs the old salty gurus - couple of beers into the young fellahs quickly followed into giving the old fellahs shit about the 20 -30kg shark hunter outfits they had been using, johnny (we nicknamed him the fish whisperer) the guru just laughed at us and our "whiting rods" and kept pointing to his 45 plus pictures of 20kg dhuies and numerous club records that surrounds the house in jurien.
Day 1 was a cracker of a day weather wise, but there was not much fish to show for it, couple of baldies and that was it, good warm up for the wk end though. this was the start of my so close wk end, dropped a couple of good fish on the jigs - think it was one of those days they were half hearted just having a play.
day 2 - all the fishing comps started, another belter of a day but a fairly big swell (making going through the South passage a hairy experience) - alot of boats at the ramp ready for the days fishing, some great banter over the VHF for the day - i was pissing myself for most part, it got funnier as the day went on as a few of the boys got a couple under the belt, the music/singing started and was coming over the radio - one of the funniest comments for the day MAYDAY MAYDAY............................ WE HAVE RUN OUT OF PISS (this was by mid day). a couple of others that come to mind WHAT IS THE WEIGHT LIMIT ON SEAWEED, and SIZE LIMIT ON SEA HORSES. after a short 30 min trip johnny put us on the spot and off we went - almost bagged out in a single drift, was a great spot, shortly after we had our 8 fish for the day (2 dhuies, 2 pinkes, 2 baldies and 2 BA), we then hit up a sambo spot which was good fun for a bit - johnny and browny picked up a couple of bigger models going over 15kg.
Day 3,
Another great day on the ocean - the VHF alot quieter as the boys must have been on the sauce the night before, again pissing myself though first sign of life was WE REQUIRE 2 BODY BAGS - I AM NOW 2kg LIGHTER haha.
So i was looking forward to my fortunes turning around as i had a pretty lean couple of days, myself personally loosing good fish and only landing small dhuies, nannagies and sambos, the skipper once again landed us on the spot with perfect drifts - we pretty much bagged out again on the single drift, hooked a couple of 15kg model Dhuies which my mate was stoked about was his PB on the soft placcy and the old salty jonny did not dissapoint with his 15.4 kg model also. had to put a few 10kg dhuies back which were wound up super slow, was good to see they all released well. As usual if cleaned up on small dhuies haha.
the old salty strikes first with a nice Dhuie
Browny replys with one for the jigs
after we pulled up our bag limit we went to play with a school of sambos, was more fun watching the old fellahs pulling up double headers on the bait, all i heard was puffing and moaning - they were shattered to say the least, the young fellahs were having a ball pulling up a few smaller models on the jigs.
then suddently WACK all hell broke loose - my mate gets his jig hit half way off, got smoked with his 5 kg stella, almost spooled him, i thought shit i better get mine up so we dont cross, WACK mine goes off - i was reeling as fast as i could and this thing still hit me like a trane - we had both never felt power like that, was unreal how many runs this thing had, was the best fun - after about 10 mins fighting this thing i was shattered, my mates pings about 15 metres below the boat - DEVASTATED, i still had mine on and i had to get it up for a look - 10 metres to go we got colour, looked like a tuna or some sort, the fish rolled around for one last run and PING my 80 pound leader busted FAAAAAA#$%#$#KKKKKKKKK that was it for me - spat the chewy massive almost threw my rod in the water haha, funny thinking back now. Was my favourite jig to (just my luck), hardly got a touch on my other colours after that.
Me trying to take a breather - arms were on fire
browny going hard on stella giving the unstoppable some curry back
All in all a great trip heaps of fish in the freezer so the mrs was still happy, I cant thank Johnny enough a for taking the time out to take us young fellahs away for a solid 3 days fishing, - a trip certainly myself and Browny will remember for a lifetime, we learnt a shit load and its amazing how much experience you gain of a single trip like this, still along way to go for us young fellahs but we are not far off, we cant wait for the rematch already.
Pic of the fellahs after a good day
sorry again if this is a bit longwinded - but hope you enjoyed,
Cheers Dan

Great read Dan. Good to see
Great read Dan. Good to see Browny get a PB Dhu. He actually missed a bigger one out of Dawesville a few weeks back, but that is another story. Johnny does have the touch.
