Kalbarri Classic

Next month sees the Kalbarri classic being fished over the 26th 27th and 28th of Feb.

Possibly if all goes well there will be 3 on my boat fishing.

Who else is planning on heading up and whats the plans for fishing.

I like the idea of heading up during the comp as there should be a few boats up there for safety reasons, never been there before, and will give an idea of areas to fish. though people can feel free to pm me extra info on the sideWink

meanwhile I'll keep the economy ticking over in your absence......

I'd get in touch with the Tang man, if he doesn't have the good oil then give up.

Kalbarren classic

I fished it for quite a few years. Its a well run comp but i got tired of the lack of fish. Each year it has blown its tits off on the comp weekend. Had one good day out of 7 years I attended.

Usually a run of mackies in the 6 to 9 kg range, stripey tuna to 6 and YFT to 14. Bottom fishing can be difficult. Small snapper along the cliffs. Red throat and small dhuies on the coral. Each progressive year I went the bottom fishing got steadily worse. Last time I went i caught 4 redthroat and a baldie on one day and nothing on the rest...and came third........very little fish caught offshore.

The winner fished the river mouth and caught some good mullaway as the river was in flood.

That was it for me.. I will spend my holiday money going a little further north

Just remember if you're fishing line class only 2 brands of line are to be used. Means you gotta respool everything you want to use. Cant remember the brands off hand. Load of bullshit if you ask me. All IGFA rated line should be ok to use.

As for no fish, last year saw some incredible fish come in. 9kg + 6kg red emp, couple of rankins, coral trout, bladies, dhuies, red throat etc. Pretty good comp I thought

As I said.. its a great comp and I have enjoyed every year i went, well run and great people but last year i went to Exmouth for the fishwrecked comp instead..and caught 36 red emporer, 16 rankins countless big spanglies and more 10-12 kg mackies than I care to remember. Plus a marlin and wahoo.

If I am only going to one comp this year I know which one it will be
