Karratha boat fishing

Looks like I'm heading up to Karratha for a holiday very shortly, and will have the use of a boat. Going with the bro inlaw, I,ve never fished from a boat there before so anyone with any tips, hints on where to go, how far out etc,etc would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers Danny.

all depends on how big your boat is mate. There is always a place to hide in shelter around the islands but the better fishing is at the edge of the achipelago, sure there are those who have there spots close by but for a first timer head out to the edge.

There are multiple reefs/rocks from eaglehawk island through bare rock, roly rock around kendrew past sailfish reef and miller/nelsons rocks, find yourself a likely lump holding fish in 10-20m of water and have a crack.

Best bet is to get hold of a chart mate and pick a few likely spots out because i'm not going to give away any of my spots and i'm sure neither are the rest of the locals.

best of luck and while you are looking around have a rod or two out for a Mackerel as well, makes for a good day when the spaniards are biting

Yeah thanks Brucesta, the boat (new to my bro inlaw) is a 6.10m Trailblazer Trailcraft so should be big enough to head anywhere. So how far out is the edge of the achipelago roughly and how deep. Do I need real heavy sinkers or not. We definitely will do a bit of trolling too.

But the pipeline was always a good place to pick up some bottom fish.

It is not too far out to the various islands and you will usually ind good fishing around them.

I don't know if they still put the FADs out, but they were a great place for sailfish, etc.

The FAD's are long gone from memory.

The edge of the archepelago is probably a 30-40min ride and the depths vary from 15m down to nearly 40m in some spots. depending on tides a 250g sinker would be max i'd say. i use usually no more than 100g most days.

30-40minutes to get into good fishing, cool we're used to travelling alot longer and further than that down here. Can't wait to get up there.
