Kayak to jetski

I've been going through exactly the same process as you Moking, it's nice to hear you've done it! I'm 57 & wondered if I was too old, but reading about your 67 y/o guy, think I've got a few years yet. Love to hear your opinion, compaired to kayak, so keep the experience going. Thought about going tinny, but I don't think that will do it for me. Anyone else got any comments about their experience or the age factor

The best thing is the ease of launching and retrieve by yourself. Can seriously take me 20 seconds from stepping out the car to having the ski up at the jetty or on the beach. I can't comment on age factor as I'm only 22 :P
If you're happy fishing inshore then I think a jetski is a serious option, and the grand kids will love ya!

G'day...Well I'm the same
G'day...Well I'm the same age as you,so I will keep you informed.
Here's what I decided on- I've been kayak fishing for appox 3years,I enjoy the freedom of getting in behind reefs and shallow sandbanks(which I will be able to do with the jetski).I've purchased a secondhand Yamaha 2010 3 Seater Waverunner.
- I've owned a 18ft Vogager(many years ago) and I did not want to go down that path again-I'm going to be able to put the ski in and out when ever I want to(single person retrival).
-I've also had a tinnie(so I had that experience as well) I want something faster!!
- I'll be able to get the wife involved, even if it's for the odd b/que picnic over too Garden Island or Pengiun Island.
-It takes up a hole lot less room than a boat or tinnie and I'm hoping will be a lot cheaper to run and maintain.
- I normally paddle 6k'm from Palm Beach to Point Peron and then back,it takes up a lot of my time-now I'll be there in 5minutes,so more time to explore and do more fishing.
Hope that helps-just wait for the pic's that I will eventually put up here,I think you will end up making the same decision

I love getting in between the reefs on the ski, theres some awesome big tailor holes around that the boats just can't get to. when I'm popping the reefs I usually stand up and steer the ski with my hips while I bomb the reefs with poppers! Just coming into snapper season so that will be my target for the next couple months :)

Unless the rules have changed recently it used to be a 100 meter
exclusion zone for skis around garden island...

Okay Chookc-Thanks again,
Okay Chookc-Thanks again, I've now done my research jetsk's around Garden Island and you are correct.
From what I've read, all they do is take a photo of your Ski and Rego number and send you a $1000 find in the mail....there a lot of other things I can do with the wife for that sort of money

Thanks JCM-It's been great
Thanks JCM-It's been great helping you make up your mind. When you get some confidence up,you better invite us down to do some fishing with you.It would make a great weekend
On a sad note-My Dad passed away on Monday,he was 92,and I would not be fishing if it wasn't for him taking me out to Point Peron and Secret Harbour(that's when it was a sand track).
So fishing from now on will really be something special when I'm out there.

I suggested the exact same thing to John about the weekend away Al!
Sorry to hear about your dad Al, my dad taught me to fish too. The oldest memory of fishing with dad I remember is trying to catch goldfish or koi in a stream in a rice field in Bali, I must have been about 5 years old :)
Hopefully we can catch up while I'm home.
