You can get yabbie traps,
You can get yabbie traps, but not sure where. Otherwise, as a kid, I remember tying bits of meat onto a piece of string in the dams to catch them (then use a fine fishing net like for aquariums), and also catching them by hand in a clear stream down south. Fun and tasty. I'm not sure how populous they'd be in a metro lake though, even if there were some.
have a look here if you want some ideas to make your own traps. I dont know the legality of any of this. AFAIK marron and yabbies are different species, but then yabby doesnt seem too fixed
Found this which goes into more info

oh yea, with the net, dont
oh yea, with the net, dont get one with holes too small otherwise you'll drag up all kinds of crap. Try and get one that fits the minimum size yabby you'd want. My old net, the netting gaps are about 3cm. Also if you find it hard to track a perfect net, i got my net custom made from a tackle store that doesnt exist anymore. I chose the netting, type of frame, length etc. Mine had 3m length, joins and poles like a swimming pool leaf net.

If you get some smallish ones they make great baits
