Lancelin beach launching
Submitted by Boppo on Tue, 2013-02-26 10:16
I am keen to launch a trailcraft 6.5 m boat off the beach at Lancelin. I have a troopie 4.2l turbo and was hoping that might be enough grunt. Maybe I need some mesh under the trailer tyres? Usually see tractors putting in boats of that size so am after any info.

Give a man a mask, and he'll show you his true face...
The older you get the more you realize that no one has a f++king clue what they're doing.
Everyone's just winging it.

Carton
Take a carton or two. Try things out with the launch, if it's too challenging you have payment ready for a tractor guy if needed. If you can retrieve, at least you have something to celebrate with!

Ali or Glass?
6.5 Ali and you should be fine, sand has been nice and hard there the last few weeks. North side of Jetty, pulling out bigger Ali boats than that with petrol 80s series cruiser. No issues at all.
Run into issues, drop the boat off the trailer. Move car/trailer up the beach a bit, and try again.

Ali,
Will give it a try. It's my mates boat. I have a smaller boat that I launch there no worries.
I like the carton idea sounds like a win win!

I would be very surprised if you have an issue (providing the weather and beach stay in good nick)

I see people get in trouble
I see people get in trouble most weekends in Lano. Two things to watch out for is the surge and time you take to retrieve.
If there is a surge and it's going past your front wheels then forget it. If you have someone in the car then have them reverse back a few feet every 15 seconds or so and forwards again. The trick is not to stay still for too long. before you drive forwards to take the boat out of the water always go backwards first.
Launch will be fine, just the retrieve you need to be careful, don't mess around - move fast and keep the car moving.
Comming up to easter the surge will be getting worse and will be more people having issues. I use to use my Hilux but after a few stressful events I decided to get an old tractor also.
You can always drag the boat up the beach a little and reverse the trailer back to the boat, that's just hard work though but I see most people use that method at Ledge Point.
