Lancelin help

I'm taking the family up to Lancelin on Sunday. The kids are fairly young and my Dad is over from the UK, but his knees are shot so I was going to drive him onto the jetty and let him have a go for herring off the end while the girls are playing on the beach.

I know you can catch herring and gardies from the jetty, but is there anything else anyone knows of? Is the beach any good for some decent whiting?

I just need to keep the kids and the old man entertained for a while and try and get a small feed.

Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.

Cheers

Depends on the time of day.  You can also get Tailor, Flathead, Skippy and Squid but mainly at night, mornings are good for herrings although the size was pretty small when I was there a few weks ago.  Also, there are times you are not permitted to drive on the getty ie during the day when the cray boats are workiing etc.  If I go beach fishing I usuallt go to Fence Reef which is near the lime mine, you get there by taking old Ledge road accross from the tip and taking the first left, follow this track down to the beach.

Used to go there every christmas for two weeks and fish off the smaller jetty near the pub as a little tacker.

We used to catch sooo many herring and whiting it wasnt funny, probabaly why there all small still :P

We used to get quite a few cobbler from that jetty.

Saw a big shovel nose get yanked onto it once as well.

Good memories...
