Went for dive Thursday got some huge occy . I kept 2 heads (1 kg jobs each head). Went out today ( huge wind waves from the north.) settled down about midday . So I ventured further out to a spot I found few weeks ago. I thought I was first one to find it. I also thought dhues where spewing up dancing occy legs . Further investigation they where white thin plastics that looked like occy legs .dhues only took occy heads ( skinned) I had fresh skinned occy legs / fresh squid . Fresh wrase fillets Un touched. Great few days

Fantastic catch but you must be fearless. Not sure if it relates to me being scared of spiders, but those giant occys could easily make their way into my nightmares.

awesome catches
i see people catching good fish on occy as bait but in 30 years of fishing i`ve only caught dhuie and snapper on squid or fish fillets.
i`ve rarely had a bite on occy (-:

Always had trouble skinning
Always had trouble skinning occy for bait. Maybe you try a step by step tutorial on how you do it .

Pretty simple
Lay on newspaper ( suckers facing up) seperate legs reasonably even. Do a cut to centre of occy . (Beak) using filleting knife ,then just turn knife on angle as if you are skining fish fillet .1 leg at a time, skin sticks to news paper . I actually do 2 at a time. Heap easyier doing 1 .only takes a couple of minutes .
