Last nights Snapper fishing

Been out 4 times so far - no snapper.

Although last night the boat next to me 20 metres away caught 5 in the space of 20 minutes, so its a glimmer of hope that I'm in the right area now.

But I did catch a bunch of fresh bait for tonights session. Heres hoping my luck changes tonight, I'm getting frustrated chasing these things!

Fresh bait is always the best.

Were you inside the sound or outside?

oh man - I couldnt believe it, they were killing it so close to me, didnt want to pull up anchor and sit right beside them but yes, was puzzled. Started throwing burley in that direction to bring them over but no joy.

Try keeping the bait moving

Thu, 2015-09-24 20:02

Try keeping the bait moving around, ive dropped still baits in a school and they wont get hit till i start to retreive or drift off, so now i always fish a slow troll or throw placcies at em. But i can imagine your frustration. Hope your cleaning up.

 Good advice. I find often

Wed, 2015-09-30 21:09

Good advice. I find often with plastics and unweighted drift baits rather than just sitting in a rod holder if you cast it out about the same distance as your depth and let it slowly swing down then retrieve and repeate they often hit it on the drop as its sinking down.

baitfish limits

Fri, 2015-09-25 18:30

I think its the same for scalys , 9 litres per person , so about a small bucket or half a nappy bucket.

Under trev species at nearshore species listing it specificly says NOT YELLOWTAIL UNDER TREV SPECIES, but there not specif listed under

bait fish either , yep another call to fisheries coming up.

Yellow tail limit

Wed, 2015-09-30 02:42

If you find the bag limit for them could you post it up here please. I've just had a look and can't find the limit listed in the Fisheries publications I have, it must be listed some where but it is not obvious that's for sure.
