LED lights for night time driving

Lads,

Looking at lighting up the drive on the Stabi as I catch myself out late and coming home after dark too often. The cray pots make it a shit of a trip home. I was thinking a LED light bar on the roof (like a 4x4 light bar)to give me a good drive home.

Is this the best option?

Cheers

but you dont want any light hitting the front deck or the glare will blind you and you wont see a thing, best thing ive ever used was a pair of night vision goggles makes everything like daylight as long as you dont get sea sick

Lights possition

As above, lights mounted on the roof doesn't really work, I was also thinking of putting a small bar light on the very front of my bow rail to spot cray pot ropes & floats. At the moment I have a hand held spot light which I have tried holding out the front zip-out clears, but again you loose vision due to the glare from the bow and bow rails. I only now use spot light in some conditions when coming through the moorings to see the unattended buoys. There was a comment on here some time ago about using spot lights with the same problem and when he had his mate hold the light over the side below the gunnels he could see ok, I think that the light distance would be poor at that angle though.
Be interested to here more information about good night vision goggles and prices.

Work fine for me

I have two 9inch led bars on top of the roof that work perfect, mounted at the rear of the roof, gives no glare.

Not cheap though, as these have centre led's as a beam, and outer led's as spread.

Haven't tried mounting light further back on the roof.

I run a 24" light bar on the front of my cab. Even with the bit of glare coming back from the rails it makes a huge differance. Can see cray pots and other stuff in the water. Makes it easier for coming in through channel markers and marina's rather than just relying on the GPS in the dark.

I am planning on Painting the back of my Bow rails will flat black paint though to get rid of the glare.
