LEE lead melter

Hi Guys

Any of you purchased a Lee Lead melter????,they seem to be the only brand available.

I have been making sinkers, wanting a better way of melting the lead.

I have already cleaned up 2 bucket fulls of wheel wheights into ingots, not a pleasant task.Have made some sinkers, not that a pleasant task either.

My moulds are Do It Jig head and Do it Bass sinkers, plus a star mould and small and medium snapper moulds.I did pre-heat moulds, consistant lead temp was my main issue,I use an outside open fire pit.

The larger Lee Melters seem reasonable value on EBay,I know there are seperate USA 110V types and 220V types. Interested in the Pro 4-20.

A question for those that have them, are they as good and simple to operate as they seem???

The 4" clearance will be an issue for my larger snapper moulds.Does the base plate simply unscrew from the back board???? I would like to space it out to get 6" clearance.Same for the 2 support rods.

All advice appreciated.

Thanks

Andrew

Lead Furnace

Fri, 2011-08-19 15:44

Hi Andrew, I got my furnace from Western Firearms online. I provided a link in another thread and just checked it but it seems to not be working. They may be out of stock, I would check their site and contact them .

The one i got was the Lee lead furnace Pro 4 - 20lb . I think it was $140 delivered . It is great and makes the whole process safer and quicker.

I made a larger pouring nipple only because i make some large sinkers and was getting a layered effect on the sinkers. If you are only making jig heads it will probaly be ok.

If you contact them before you purchase , inquire about different size pourers as i found out later they are available and is probaly wize to get a couple spare.

I bought it from them trouble free online and thought it was safer than buying from ebay , I was worried i'd get sent an American model .( make sure its compatible to Aus standards )

Hope this helps , any other questions please ask, im happy to help ,  Cheers Grant .

PS Here Andrew i found the link . They are on sale at the moment check it out .

Have a look at this thread. I bought one a while ago and make all my leadheads as per this as well as sinkers. Also make jig heads for SP's.

Thanks Mullows.

Love the powder coating tips!!!!

The Lead melter Im looking at is the PRO version. With yours, does the base screw onto the upright support???

The reason I ask is my snapper sinker mould is over 4" tall.

I would make a spacer for more height if its easily dismantled.

I use the do-it molds Andrew

I use the do-it molds Andrew so they all fit in there pretty well. I would have to pull it out of the shed and have a look. Not sure of the clearance. This is the one I bought though (from these guys), think it might be the one you are looking at.

Just make sure you protect yourselves against lead fumes

Pretty bloody toxic on your blood cells etc. Get appropriate breathing apparatus/masks.

Just look at the stink it caused in Esperance.
