LENCO Trim tabs

Hi Guys, need some assistance with a Lenco Trim Tab...I noticed prior to our recent trip up north that the port side trim tab had evidence of rust seaping from the bottom of the shaft and settling on the stainless trim plate. I tried the up and down controls and nothing happed but i could hear slight clicking indicating it had a feed to it....Do these thing seize?...Its obvoius a seal has let go and water has corrodide something or other.

With this in mind and as it was stuck in the up position I thought all would be ok for the trip, however whilst on the water up north after a few days it managed to work its way to the fully down postition.... Strange, because I understand these are on a worm shaft.

The boat was listing pretty bad and compensating it with starboard trim just made the whole boat handle shit house. I tried to manually move the tab with no success so I decide to remove the whole unit just leaving the stainless plate, this included severing the electrical feed at the top of the shaft.

Firstly, has anyone encountered these issues and secondly would any one recommend  a dealer/boat mech

Cheers

GT funny you should say. Last time out we noticed our trim tabs -also lenco were not working properly. Not sure what side it was though but similar issues to what you describe.
