Let some know where you are going - missing person on Jetski
On duty on Saturday sitting in Hillarys when we get a call about a missing person on a jetski. left Mindarie at 5.30am and was due back 12 noon. Wife called us approx 3.30pm after checking the carpark.
She had no idea where he had gone - where to start.
Search commences with 4 rescue vessels and police chopper. Search area initially Burns Beach to Alkimos wreck and up to 3nm of the coast. Very large area and conditional not the best for spotting someone in the water.
I suggest search be extended north of Alkimos Wreck due to constant southerly wind most of the day. Police chopper located semi submerged Jetski just west of the Pippidinny Reef about 1 nm offshore. Short time later missing person located safe and well suffering mind hypothermia and flown to RPH.
We were able to recover the jetski and tow back to Mindarie to wating family who were very greatful for the job done.
A good outcome for all.
Lesson - always let someone know where you are going. If not contacting local sea rescue then let spouse or neighbour know. Will help in norrowing down the search area.

Thanks to Sea Rescue again
we DONT have another marine death.
On such a small craft and no idea where to look he is lucky. Simple things like telling someone about a destination makes sense. He might learn from this.
