is anyone on here running one of these? What kind of rope and how much can you get on? And does anyone have any suggestions as to an alternative? I notice they are not freefall, but reel out at 42m pm, same as retrieve--seems a bit slow, as I am used to a freefall winch.

How do you find the non-freefall?
They are releasing at a reasonable rate--I wasn't even aware they were not freefall until I did some reading yesterday. What size boat are you anchoring on it? Do you have a larger diameter topshot on it, for abrasion resistance?

Ive never used another winch
Ive never used another winch with freefall so not sure
But it takes maybe 2mins to drop 100mtrs of rope
Its on a seafarer viking about 18ft
No topshot just the 7mtts chain so far no dramas and using there mmx anchor its never been stuck yet

I have a freefall
I have a freefall stressfree. These are expensive but it came on my boat. I think the problem with non-free fall is that when paying out the drum tends to overrun if there is no pull on the rope, such as when the anchor hits bottom and you want to pay out to get some scope on it. With freefall it only takes out as it needs as fast as you reverse or drift away from the anchor and there is less chance of tangles.
Mine has been installed by others and it off cerntre. This is important with any winch drum, it causes the drum to spool unevenly. I am yet to try and fix this. I might be able to rotate the motor one bolt hole and move it over a bit in the well wheb I can be bothered...
Mine has stardard silver twisted rope and has 80m including chain so I don't actually use it much because I find I'm fishing in 40 or deeper mostly... would be nice to change it to a longer thinner rope one day... and I would definately run chain and then 10m of something heavier for abrasion resistance at the ground...

Curved deck roller
Would a curved deck roller like this help yours stop from bunching up?

This^^^
These are apparently a great help, the bulge in the middle means the rope is going back and forward trying to centre, and lays on much better.
