Long term parking rort
Submitted by Dale on Thu, 2009-12-10 17:57
Just been looking into the long term parking costs at the domestic airport and a lot of the prices have changed since 30/11/09. Going to cost me $136 to park for 2 weeks flying back and forth from Karratha. Bloody rort cashing in on FIFO workers, no other name for it, doesn't matter how you look at it. Southwest Coachlines are looking at doing a run direct run up there and back leaving Busso around 10am getting back around 15:00. I will be jiggling my flights to take advantage of this if I can, Oh yeah, got a job at Dampier Powerhouse on 6 month contract, just need to pass my medical on Monday which I've already done 3 times since August.
Cheers
Dale

Thats less than $10 per
Thats less than $10 per day? You should try parking in town. The city parking is under investigation I think.

A couple of guys I work with
A couple of guys I work with have a good system going if you do an 8/6 roster, they swap tickets over on fly in day so you only pay for the day instead of the full 8 or you do as Kane mentioned go the taxi like I do works out better.

Taxi????
Think taxi fare from Busselton to the airport would be a little bit more than $50.

I am usually away for about
I am usually away for about 5 days at a time, so I park in the short term carpark.
Short term pricing went from $26 to $35 over a weekend. Got a bit of a shock when i put the ticket in to pay after getting home.
On a positive note it is good to see some work being done at airport at long last. It is about 5 years overdue, but I get the impression it is just a patch up job. Perth airport is the worst major airport in the country IMO.

f**k me swinging.....
With the money you earn up north, I'm sure $136 isn't going to bankrupt you mate. To be bitching about it is unbelievably pathetic - there are people who earn a lot less than you paying more than that in the city.
Besides that, it is a work related expense that you can claim on tax at the end of the year - just keep your reciepts, even the running expenses of your car (get a logbook).

Sorry
Sorry but you can not claim parking Huggy..we have all tried that one! $136 might not bankrupt us mate..but going to work away in the hot, dusty..fly ridden bush..is what we choose to do. And if the suits that go to work in there airconditioned office in perth choose to pay that for parking, so be it. When prices go up for anything people are always not happy...it has nothing to do with what they EARN.

I'm just saying
that you dont have to provide a thing when working up there and earn a good wage. To be bitching about $136 for 2 weeks parking is IMO a joke. Irrespective of how much you earn, $136 for 2 weeks parking is pretty bloody reasonable - to say its a rort and a deliberate ploy to gouge FIFO workers is absurd.

you guys that have to travel
you guys that have to travel by car to perth then fly out could you not find out if someone else that works with you lives near the airport and offer a small fee (like a 6 pack) to park your car at their house instead of paying the high parking rates. just a thought
