Lost Catch Bag off Garden Island
Good Morning Ladies and Gentlemen
Well, this morning 30-12-14, I got to do a couple of dives with a couple of mates and finally convinced my 18 YO son to join us.
Eevrything that could go wrong, did go wrong.
It started with me untangling a rope to hang over the side. I didn't realise there were two ropes, and promplty threw it over the side and watched it sink. Bugger. When I dived, went looking for it, but couldn't fing it. It is soft black poly cored with a quick release snap hook and one a loop at the other.
Son geared up, and then threw up, first in the boat, then in the boat again and over the side.
Finally got in the water and found some crays for the son to grab. Pretty much his first effort at crays, did well got three, then broke his loop. I gave him mine and I got a couple with the broken loop. Churned through the air pretty quick as I would find ground for him and supervise him, didn't get much of a chance myself, but it was good to get the son out. He eneded up with 6 crays when I decided we should surface. He then relised that his cray bag was gone. Quick look, but couldn't find it.
Got to the boat and was still crook, asked to be taken in and then we would do another dive.
Dropped him off and he took his gear with him, unfortunately, he had my catchbag in his bucket. Bugger, now I don't have catchbag, oh well, I will catch them and put them in my mates bag.Got down, first cray,my loop breaks Ahhhhhhhh Grrrrrrrrr
Oh well, lovely country.
If anyone sees a black catch back, with the self closing spring, give me a yell, and you can keep the crays. We were 1000 meters west of GI in 15 meters of water.
Tally for the day
2 x broken loops
1 x lost catchbag
1 x crook son (he did enjoy the dive, but not being crook at sea)
Got a feed of crays, but we had to work hard to get them
Couldn't believe how full Point Peron was with boats
Cheers
Willy

Gota look at the bright side, atleast your boat is still floatin....
I am, as I've said, merely competent. But in an age of incompetence, that makes me extraordinary.

The Sea Giveth and the Sea Taketh away
Well
Another sucessful cray dive and a mate of mine found a catchbag with the festering remains of some crays!! Yayyyy, I got my catch bag back
I have also invested in new loops. The are the good quality ones, not the cheap ones and they are actually $14 cheaper, for higher quality equipment
Happy days
Willy
