Lucky Bay Kalbarri

Have pencilled in a trip to Lucky Bay for a couple of days next weekend. Been on the bucket list for a while so pretty darn excited. Unfortunately the weather gods aren't smiling and a bit of rain is forecast. Have done a bit of searching on here, but haven't found much in way of winter time fishing reports from there. Has anyone been there this time of year and can tell me what to expect? And how productive is the fishing inside the bay, in comparison to outside (landbased)?

Inside Lucky Bay

depending on weed you will get a feed of whiting n small tarwhine and the odd tailor etc during the day and in the evening try n find a gutter around the southern part for maybe a tailor or shovel nose and mulloway, try a popper over any white wash reef for some tailor as well. If the swell is up then fishing outside of lucky is a real problem though you can drive north towards wagoe and try n find a sandy hole in the reef. Be very careful trying to fish off the reef in any sort of swell. We burley quite heavily and always a chance for a shark if nothing else around.  Place can turn it on or be dead as , hope this helps.

Was at lucky bay yesterday, absolutely amazing place. The bay is actually much bigger than I thought and is a couple of metres deep at the most. Was no weed and crystal clear water. Only a few tarwhine inside the bay but not really much around when we were there anyway.

Id fish outside the bay off the reef, be prepared to lose some tackle because the fish know where the structure is! Watch the swell sweeping up the reef because it may catch you off guard. Be careful on the way in through the dunes because the wind moves the tracks and dunes very quickly so keep an eye out !

We went from Friday to Sunday. Swell was too big to fish off the rocks so tried inside the bay for some smaller species but didn't even get a nibble. An inch or 2 of rain last night and it became a rather unenjoyable trip pretty quickly. Would like to go back there during a more favourable time of year. Just won't bother with winter again

I took a "shortcut" through that area on my way home via Nawaba and the gravel roads were treacherous! Back into 4wd at 40kph. Then it rained pretty much the entire drive home back to Leinster and is still raining out here now. Want to get the tent and swag out to dry but think I'll run out of time when work comes calling on Thursday as the forecast isn't flash
