Mackerel Lures

G'day all,

We're heading up to Coral Bay next week and need some advice on Mackie lures. What types and colours would be great.
Cheers
Hank.

Drift bait

Always had much more success anchoring and drift baiting mulies or gar and you also get the odd visit from the pointed ended sail or marlin

don't forget wire.....

also if you are trolling and have a spread throw a big bumbell popper out the back and watch the mackies hit them......they tend to come clean out of the water.

also look at making a cheap teaser up (cans/CD's etc) and throw them out. the flash will bring the mackies up.

but for me I just use a popper cause it got hooks.

remember as the sun comes up and arches higher sit/set the lure deeper.

Can't go wrong with the Halco Laser Pro 190's and Rapala X-Rap's. You could also try some bibbless minnows like the Lively Lures Mack Bait's or the Halco Max's. All colours will work imo, just depends what the fish like on the day.

"holy sh!t, did you see that?"

Anchoring

Tue, 2009-03-31 18:36

If you anchor and burley them up also stick a bait or two out under a balloon up to 60-80 metres from the boat.Sometimes the fish will circle the boat before coming in to the burley.I've had more success by this way than any other. After all what is the cost of a party balloon.
