make sure you have your fishing licence

went out for an early fishing this morning with matt ended up bagging out with dhus and baldies. There was heaps of bait around and alot of sharks. Came in to have fisheries check catch and licences they was happy until i we all found out my wife didnt renew my licence like she said she did, so i ended up losing my fish and a $200 fine. Was all my fault for not double checking and i very good lesson. The worst thing wasnt getting the fine it was losing a baldie and a dhu.

Everyone learn from my mistake and double check everything before heading out

Bit of bad luck mate,  should be a option to pay it in 3 – 5 year blocks .. what did they do with the fish ?..  I presume they wouldn’t just throw them back in the water near the ramp

Agree Chris , this yearly thing is bullshit! Why not like a driver's licence 5 yrs. Surely it saves on admin for them as well.

what was the fine actually

Fri, 2014-09-12 23:17

what was the fine actually for?

My understanding is it would be for the person who had the valid licence and for going over their bag limit, not the person who had the expired licence.

As with the guy on here a year or so back who went out at Exmouth with 3 guys he didnt know, and all of their licences were expired including the skipper?

 Fine would be for fishing

Sat, 2014-09-13 05:24

Fine would be for fishing without a licence,or two fish over there bag limit ,being only one licence on board .whether  it be 1 year ,3 year, 5year the same thing will happen to some people .

5 year licence

Sat, 2014-09-13 07:36

There is no way they will issue you with a licence that runs over twelve months because the way this Govt is putting up fees it would mean they miss out on what could be four years of rises.
Just received the renewal for the dinghy---gone up from $79 last year to just over $100, thieving bastards.

The confiscated fish usually get donated to "Meals on Wheels", pensioners and any person who they know of that is in a needy situation.

Its not to bad what they do

Its not to bad what they do with the fish if there is a pensioner near by they can give the fish to them so atleast it went to someone instead of back in the water. The fine is just for fishing without licence. I agree there should be a 5 year option so instead of just the $30 licence i had to pay $200 fine $30 licence and they took my dhu and baldie   :(

they must have changed the way they do it now as previously it was whoever held a valid licence was responsible for the catch

Remember this?

A rediculous situation also as a passenger has no control over the skippers actions, legally or physically.

I agree, 3 year licence

Sat, 2014-09-13 14:20

I agree, 3 year licence should be an option.

I have since taken a photo of my temporary receipt on my phone as a back up.

I also send the image to my own 'online' email with details in the subject. That way when I forget my licence or my children have pulled all my cards out of my wallet Im not caught out. I can log into my email and search it if need be.

My take on it... "Do the crime and pay the fine !!!!". It's the licence holders responsibilty and no one else's.

Unfortunately if the option of 1, 3 or 5 yearly payments are available the same will happen with some people as Paul G said.

The fishires blokes said because I had asked James if he had a licence befor we went out that I had done my part as the skipper that's why it wasent classed as over the bag limit. But if I had not asked the question then I would be the one in the shit. Still a great morning out there with plenty of fish to be had

sorry to say but I blame fisheries in a way.i always check mine regardless.last lot of renewals never got sent out, lucky I checked prior to going out.mine was out of date, phoned fisheries and they have had many complaints prior to mine, most people with bills wait for them in mail. keep in mind most people forget about other bills .same as car rego been caught there also maybe fisheries should send stickers out for boat owners like your rego for boat, sorry I have no respect for 1 local fisheries guy, says to much and booked a pensioner for very minor infringement, where a $50 dollar warning would have been enough.obvious honest mistake on your behalf very sore subject with me, some are nice and they do a great job protecting stock ect ,glad to see it never stuffed your day up.

Its a hard one

But agree if it is expired and even though all your intentions are good it's still not gona end well.

We were just fishing down south in a Private lake for trout and decided to try in the Warren for redfin. ATS didnt have freshwater fishing on our licences. Went in and paid it in Pembie, but it was just paper. Pissed down with rain and all the ink washed off (well almost).

Fisheries stopped us for a check, and I have to admit I was happy with this as we just got the licences. They tried to read it and was advised that they would have to check. If we "lied" we both would get a fine. No worries.

Got a nice letter thnaking us for the honesty and sorry for the inconvenience. I was a bit surprised at this.
