Heading south for the Xmas holidays shortly.
On the 29th of Dec will be flying out for a family holiday to Kuala Lumpur and Penang.
Will hopefully be catching up with Kasey in KL for some local tips and insight.
Anybody else here able to offer any tips on places to eat, tackle stores and must see/do things?

KL is awsome, there is a
KL is awsome, there is a shopping center, cant rember the name at the moment but will send it to you if you have kids, there is amuzement park inside and there is a rollercoaster inside it is awsome, goes around the shop. Have a great trip

Doctor told us before
we went to Bali, only eat food that has been cooked (hot pan) and drink bottled water, never been to KL or Penang but hear its fantastic place to go and EAT.
I'd really love to try a authentic Laksa over there, have one for me and let me know what its like. Asked in Bali but they didn't make it.

make sure you go on the cable car to Penang hill for the view,also komtar tower for the view,eat in the back street restaurants or mobile noodle vans,yumo.

hey mate KL is a great place
hey mate KL is a great place if u like shopping and stuff (im assuming most of it will be done by your wife :P)
Here are some big/popular shopping centres: mid-valley, Sungei Wang Plaza, Times Square (the one with the indoor theme park - i love the big rollercoaster!!) and Petaling Street (markets where u can barter down stuff - generally aim for 1/3 of their initial price!)
have fun! ill be there around then too but will not be very mobile...feel free to pm me if u need any help tho :)

Places to eat are everywhere
Places to eat are everywhere in KL so i think i'll leave that for you to explore but as for tackle stores i think you can't go pass Syarikat Kepong for price. there has been some complaints about the attitude of their staff at times but personally i never had any problems with them and i find them cheapest around.

do talk price with the taxi driver b4 boarding. sumtime their price can be unreasonable. not all taxi here go by the meter.

I've been to KL and Penang Big John...
Most of the good stuff has been said above for Kl. Penang is awesome for just chillin and pretty much doin nothin but eating and laying around the beach. If you ask around you will get some pretty descent seafood. There is a place near the Golden Sands that has nearly everything you could think of live in massive tanks. You just say....that one.They even had Hump Headed Maori Wrasse and live turtles when I went but I settled for live Black Tiger Prawns about 25cm long, cooked in garlic with rice. There was also a great place on the main drag opposite Golden sands called The Last Drop. Good, fresh authentic Malaysian food cheap as chips.

Had a great trip.
People, food, shopping and hotels were great.
Syarikat Kepong was a great tackle store. Got picked up by Kasey and his dad who drove us out there. Definitely worth visiting if your in KL, great range of stuff.
Kids loved the Times Square Amusement Park.

Hey mate,
just been to kl and langkawi for my honeymoon.managed to leave the rods at home by some chance but after seeing the fishing wa special i figured the fishing is better here anyway..Make sure you go to the chinese markets in kl at night..the city comes to life after dark....
offer them at least half or a third of the asking price..im sure i got ripped but seemed cheap enuf to me compared to perth prices!
as far as eating goes we stuck to the mainstream resturaunts ect.although the local stuff smells tasty just not worth the risk unless you have a gut of steel.
We stayed at sunway lagoon also..sort of like adventure world and they only run the wave pool on weekends..just incase u want to surf...
as for the taxis they think they are ripping you charging 60 ringit for a 3o minute ride but is still about a third of the price of perth...quite happy to pay as long as they take me home..
