mangrove creek fishing

Gday all,
I'm a bit north of Broome and having a go at fishing the mangroves for the first time, just after some advice on the best tide/times to fish the creeks?

Had a go this morning, managed to get some whiting and mullet for live bait and ended up landing a nice little jack and a cod both about 45-50cm.
These came within 15 minutes of each other and had no other runs in the 3 or so hours i was there. Lots of mullet, baitfish etc around.
Tried again this arvo towards the bottom of the run-out, got a smaller jack and smaller cod and bitten of by suspected shark, for about another 3 hours effort. Using left over bait from the morning so dead but fresh. Hardly any baitfish seen.

So yeah,jJust after some general advice (or even links to places i can find it) regarding how best to fish the mangrove creeks. TIA

In the NT land based on

In the NT land based on melville island, and in the Gulf if Carpenteria. I found the best time for me was low tide, get there at low, all the mangroves are exposed, when the water starts to get to the exposed mangroves and other structure the bait will start balling up trying to get to cover. Found this a hot time, 2 or three lives out in rod holder and while you are waiting  throw some plastics around. I used to go down the creek on high tide before with a green rubbush bin, cast net and an aerator to catch bait when its easy, you then have bait ready to throw out at this time. Worked awesome. Sunset and around sunrise also good times if you can handle the bities. Watcg out for the snapping handbags too.

Hard body lures also work on higher tide, gold bombers, rmg scorpions work well. Cast, couple of quick winds and rod jerk then leave it to let the lure float up then repeat winding in the slack.

My old boy just winds in reidys soft plastics slowy with no action after casting at snags and he has caught more fish than most.

Fish lower tides. I like big

Fish lower tides. I like big tides catching the last of the run out and first of the run in. Find a spot where the water is moving fast and there in an Eddie or low movement area.  Let your plastic, bait etc flow with the fast water right on the edge of the Eddie and hang on.  Those jacks will smash and run for cover.  Basically the jacks will be sitting in the Eddie smashing anything that flows part.

10 years fishing creeks this method vary rarely fails. Live bait once the water goes still.

 Yep nothing beats a neap

Yep nothing beats a neap tide esp around the low, troll around find the fish while you can move between holes then stop and cast into that area, the outgoing, low tide and first of the push are best, big tides up that way are far too turbulent.

Hour and a half either side of the low and no run, no fun.
