Was ok, wasn't targeting too much just having a crack at those black fish that are on the bottom near the rocks, those things can be fun for a quick fishing session.
heading down this friday (15/3/13) for a week...any local spots going well at the moment? would love to get some early salmon - what would be my best bet? berley up and have a livie out for passing fish?
I'll be taking my 4.55m runabout for some inshore attempts...
Good luck I would go to bremmer, only seen a few very small schools in the last 2 weeks and finding them is not easy with the water temp still over 20 degrees down here.
A few schools of a hundred fish going past castle rock, meelup, eagle bay on Monday and Tuesday. Typical up run fish as they were not hungry and only a couple were caught.
could any one mention if the salmon are still moving through dounsborough at the moment, seems ive been unlucky since easter, havent hooked into one yet, wrong place wrong time scenerios
Fished from dunsborough to bunkers in a tinny all day on mon-tues, tough going, a few landbased at the eastern end of bunkers were getting the odd fish on jacks, we managed 2 on baits when a school passed under the boat close to the rocks, but apart from that didnt see any other schools. Managed to pass over a patch about a km out from dunsborough boat ramp on the way back in tues arvo, it was overcast so couldnt see fish but got 2 more on a trolled gold laser pro and a 75g raider. Fished from gnarabup to well south of budj didnt see any schools all day on wed.
Fished that on Sunday, guys out surfing said there was heaps in the back gutters but couldn't get past the herring with a twistie closer in. Switched to a richter clone and ended up on a school of tailor 35-45cm with one a cast for about an hour or so. Packed up and left with one for dinner!
Bulk Salmon Schools but sitting further out. Coming back into Canal rocks few days ago the place was littered with them. Commerecial guys pulling them up out wide also. Come in waves normally 4 or 5 days apart.
Nice Spaniard was hooked off eagle bay landbased whilst the guy was chasing salmon.. not a bad bycatch!
Reasonable numbers of fish were taken on Mon and Tues arvos ( shore based , Bay side of Cape) wed morn but Quiet Thurs and so far today , went for a cast early this morn West Coast but too much swell , came back into bay for an hour , no Salmon seen. No reports in shop so far today shore based . Schools still being seen and fish taken by boat.
searched a bunch off threads but no recent reports around dunno.
trying to get a chance on monday/tuesday to take my dad and girlfriend for a salmon bash out of the tinnie. weather looks interesting but possible in the bay only.
heard of them rapant in rockingham etc so wondering if they have largely gone through dunno already?

Two week ago was heaps of fisher persons on the rocks around Bunkers, saw a few land some salmon as I was trawling the coastline but I only got the one :(

You usually get a gap between the up run and when they turn round and run back south.
What you will find is that on the back run they don't hang around and school up as much like they do on the up run. The fish will be a darker colour as well

Sounds like there a few moving around on the south coast but will be a while yet before they get organised.
I wonder how many more of these threads there will be this year?

Still plenty
to be caught along the capes, Dunsborough side is certainly quieter than it was.
BTW, most of the fish to be found atm are injured or empty of spawn/roe so possibly the start of the 'back run'.
