Marine batteries

Hi, can someone tell me the difference between marine batteries and car/light truck batteries, from what I have found on the net there isn't any difference other than price and a " marine battery " sticker on the side.

Have plates secured top and bottom to prevent damage from pounding I believe.

Thought about that, I would imagine 4WD's copping just as much of a pounding if not more than a boat.

Marine batteries are a hybrid. sitting somewhere between a Crank battery and a Deep discharge. This compromise allows you to use one battery to crank your motor and run the electronics while the engine is off.

A marine battery is also physically beefed up to take the pounding and vibration that it is subject to in an marine environment.

 Some not all:

Extra terminals

Thicker plates

Better impact resistance

Dual purpose capabilities

Is it worth saving $50 when your out wide? I stick to optima blue tops. Now in my landcruiser too!

told the same except for the sticker. While ive used half decent car batteries that never last, I'm feeling safer knowing i have a heavy duty marine battery when at sea, last one cost $230 which had higher cranking power than specified for the motor.

Dont see the issue.

i thought they (or some of them) had a gell instead of water in them? - to prevent battery acid spills when you hit a bit of chop... could be wrong though
