Mayday this morning

Got woken up this morning with a phone call from one of the home bases notifying me of a mayday call.Bolted down to the sea rescue building and picked up what info we had received.Made a rdaio call to the vessel but only got a click back, after a few of these we worked out it was a yacht we were tracking coming down from Exmouth. Also via the click answers we had her position of between Cape Cuvier and Point Quobba. With the local police listening in,they organised a vehicle to head up there. We were unable to notify Quobba station but managed to get the Rio Tinto boss and also the ship loader foreman at Cape Cuvier who sent a vehicle down the coast .
After some waiting we got a phone call to say the lady in the yacht was found ashore just north of Quobba homestead in good condition, sadly her yacht didn't fare so well with the keel being torn off and a major hole in the hull.
I met the lady by accident later in the day and she was very thankful her mayday had been heard and acted on quickly.

Nasty piece of coastline indeed, glad to hear it she made it in safe.  Wonder what made her come unstuck.

Makes you wonder about this young girl doing the solo trip around the world!!??!

good to hear she is ok, but how did she manage to get ashore in that area, i presume the swell would have been up a bit too. just goes to show how important the sea rescue is when you get a call like that

She came in 5ks north of the homestead, very lucky girl.Either side is all cliffs/rocks right down till past the blowholes.
She had been bashing into a strong southerly for a couple of days and a 2-3 metre swell.
All she got off the yacht was the clothes she was wearing and luckily she remembered to put a pair of shoes on saving her feet on the reef

dam fine effort guys.

just once more highlights why we need volunteers and
WHY THE PRICK WITH THE HOAX CALL (in Perth this week) NEEDS TO GO TO JAIL!

If you guys had been demoralized by a hoax in the week, then you may not have given this all the effort.
Thats one very luck lady, I hope her insurance covers her loss.

Great Going

Great job Carnarvonite. Nothing on the news about it as it would highlight what we can do in a real emergency. We always contact channel 7 & 9 as it helps with promoting what we do to get support from the local comminuties and government. Heading to Quobba next year so will drop into say hello to see your operation. Always good tocatch up with other volunteers.
