Mercruiser Pros and Cons

Looking at a 18ft boat with a recon (20hrs) 140hp Mercruiser i would be guessing its a 3lt. Has anyone had anything to do with these or no much about them. I have heard to steer clear of them (inboards) but i cant find much info to prove this theory and there seems to be alot out there or maybe the blokes i have talked to are outboard blokes.

No drama so far

Brooka, I have a mercruiser in the boat this a 4.3mpi so a bit different to your model, but again I think it's more like the Holden/Ford thing on the water.

My suggestion is pay someone to check the boat and motor before you buy it.

Money well spent I reckon

Cheers

Rick

Check out the leg if it is a in/out, but otherwise it's cheap to run.

we run a 350 chev in a 23ft fraser , we had probs with the old motor but cost of replacement was only5k , even at that size its reasonably cheap to run, 80 to 90 ltrs for about 50nm travel in average conditions

check out if it runs salt water through the motor or it has a heat exchange unit that runs coolant,

Inboards give lower centre of gravity therfore better stability.
