Trailer Plug Maintenance?

I've had my boat now for 3.5 years and during that time, I must have replaced/rewired my trailer pug at least 4 times due to corrossion.

Since there's a wealth of boat/boat maintenance gurus in here, what do YOU do/recommend to keep 'the internals' corrosion free?

If you use silicone choose

If you use silicone choose the acid free silicone.  The normal one has acitic acid (hint - it smells) in it and you will get green wires in no time flat!

Quicksilver make a product

Quicksilver make a product called liquid neoprene. You buy it in a tin and just dip your connections into it and it completely waterproofs them.

Sun, 2009-03-08 20:23

hey Colin you are only suposed to put the boat in the water not the whole carLaughing

i have only ever stuffed one and that was my old boat trailor , had the new one for 3 years now and never replaced one , lucky i guess

just be carefull what you put in there as you can short out everything if the wrong stuff is used , go to a 4x4 place and get info as they are more likely to point you in the right direction

Thanks Guys!

Sorry for the delay in reponding to your replies guys and thank you! It's been a pretty intense week work wise.

If you use silicone choose the acid free silicone.  The normal one has acitic acid (hint - it smells) in it and you will get green wires in no time flat!

Thanks Alfred! GOOD tip that one!

Laughing - LOL Russ! I've managed NOT to put the whole car in so far Tongue out, thank goodness for 4WD and low ranges Wink.  Yes, the shorting out bit needs to be considered, but if I choose the non aciding silicone as Alfred kindly suggested, I'd imagine that would be non conductive.

Know what you  mean re-trailer plugs, this is my current one, in need of desperate repair!

Bloody hell Ads! Surprised, and I thought my old one was bad LOL!! Foot in mouth Agreed Tim!

Hee hee hee David and MOB! Laughing

Again - thanks guys!

you could still go fishing,

Sat, 2009-03-14 13:43

you could still go fishing, just stay within half hour of boat ramp and have your work cloths on under the fishing ones

that way it is only half hour to work the same as home to work, just dont know how you could explain the fishy smellLaughing
