so I spent a fair bit of time this arvo trying for a pinkie off the rocks near north mole and..... nothing, not even a bite. spoke to a few guys down there and they all said the same thing, nothing. it was also blowing about 30 and felt like it was about 5 degrees tonight. where are the pinkys?

I am, as I've said, merely competent. But in an age of incompetence, that makes me extraordinary.

good to put a face to the name :-)
Give a man a mask, and he'll show you his true face...
The older you get the more you realize that no one has a f++king clue what they're doing.
Everyone's just winging it.

Moles
I read a report that for those that persevered during the storm there were several pinks plus a couple of mullas landed - both North & South moles.

Grey matter workout?
Not really , but my thoughts would go like this , all summer and autuum, calmer weather
allows all the small sea creatures and growths to inhabit the rocks, then on the first
couple of big blows for the year ( normally nor-westers) every thing gets stirred up and its snapper
heaven. After that not as much food goes into to mix when storms hit, I live in east freo and
dont always fish , but I do like to go down to the stones when storms hit for a stickybeak and always seems more action early on to me.
Been casually fishing around storms since I lived in doubleview 15 years ago , and havnt caught a pinkie yet ha! so what do I know!
