Lost Gear Yanchep Lagoon last night

Hi there

we were fishing beside a couple of blokes at Yanchep lagoon last night.

When they left they forgot a lot of gear:

empty drink bottle

plastic bags

unused bait

broken rod holder

cigarette butts

used glow sticks

We collected it all, and if anyone knows who this is, we'd like to return it to them

cheers

seeeing as the lagoon has always had a bit of a history with people complaining about fishing activity in and around it very poor form by these morons no matter where it is but things like that get spots closed off.

I was up at Wilbinga over the weekend same same rubbish everywhere guys driving all over the place destroying the dunes by not sticking to the numerous tracks.  BTW these are mostly the 4wd clubs doing this along with a few bogans.  even saw a VL commodore motor dumped just off a track FFS.  The mentality that some people have just shits me I have no problem with people having a fire especially on a cold night but is there any reason to chuck your stubbies in it friggin cavemen/women.

Good job cleaning up after the pigs

Agreed 100%, nothing wrong with a controlled fire on a cold night fishing - just dont leave any mess behind.

I used to head up to Wilbinga all the time, but I've stopped now because instead of coming home chilled out after a fish a few beers, I come home pissed off.
Rubbish.
Won't be long before you have to drive 6 hours from Perth to be able to drive on the beach.

People’s attitude

Tue, 2013-07-09 16:12

It's all peoples attitude these days. For example, saw two people driving up the freeway the other day, driver on the phone and passenger on the phone, went along side and yelled out "are we not spending enough money educating you morons not to be on the phone while driving"at which time I got the bird from both male & female passenger in the car along with some nice words like "go visit my grandmother" or something like that.Attitude!

Same up our way. I've educated the boys about rubbish etc and they are very good at cleaning up. If I think about it too much it stresses me.

Rubbish

Tue, 2013-07-09 16:38

Gents

I take my access and right to fishing very seriously. I would be quite angry if beaches etc were closed due to excess rubbish. What I do is;

1. Regsister with the Keep Australia Beautiful website as a Litter Reporter.

2. Get the details of the people involved, eg Get a registration number

3. Go online and report them.

4. They get a fine

5. They may learn a lesson and stop. Hopfully before they start a bushfire, some kid cuts their foot on broken glass or discarded hooks or animals eat the rubbish and die.

I know this is dobbing, but clearly, as you have all said, the message isn't getting through.

Sincerely

Willy

rig you cant blame the 4x4

Tue, 2013-07-09 17:04

rig you cant blame the 4x4 clubs for this, its the people that arent in the clubs that are associated with this behaviour, theres a cleanup day happening in the wilbinga area,https://www.facebook.com/groups/359190634173744/, scroll down the page its in there.

clubs

Tue, 2013-07-09 17:19

Bazooked I dont know what clubs they are possibly not official, your right I imagine most 4wd clubs are also looking to protect their interests by being seen to do the right thing but its pretty common to see groups coming in together like 15 cars+ and they go to the dunes and have a crack at getting to the top when causes a shitload of erossion and the worse part is they are doing it on the dunes that have vegetation.  It was the worse of have seen with regard to carved u[p dunes when I was up there on the weekend in spots a fair way north as most of the trouble tended to be around the 2 rocks entrance.  Whoever they are may want to have a bit of a think about it.

either way thats exactly what the enviro groups use against us people that get out to these spots to shut them down.

4x4 clubs

Wed, 2013-07-10 22:30

I can't comment on the litter situation in relation to the 4x4 clubs - except to say its bad and got progressively worse over the past few years I have been going up there - who ever is doing it. I've cut feet on more than one occasion with buried cans and crap on the beaches.

Re. the 4x4 clubs- Im not throwing all of them into the same pot, but having done a good few night sessions up that way over summer we used to be amazed at the convoys smashing through the undergrowth late on. Pretty much any night at any time - well into the early AM's you would hear the noise from miles off then see the commotion. Im sure there are responsible groups but from observation those going in late on are destoying some pretty sizable areas........All that said I did follow a group out once and was pretty grateful for the 'track widening' they did and saved me a few new go faster stripes courtesy of one of the narrower tracks.

watch yourself

Thu, 2013-07-11 11:53

Yep gotta watch yourself on the beach up there at night I was up there with Sherbert a couple of years ago and some idiots came through and nearly ran us over when we were fishing, its pretty popular to drive around drunk up there.  Also pays to stow your gear when your sleeping as there are a few suspect charactors creeping around late at night
