Would be a very interesting trip. But very exxxy I imagine?
Theres this one video I've seen where a bunch of fly fishers were fishing near a dam somewhere (not terribly large, maybe 10-20m wide, not hundreds) and it was just crazy crazy action and huge fish.
I looked at a couple of trips when was heading to Argentina last year (thought about doing a side-trip to Brazil). They look awesome, but to get to the good places a lot of the trips I looked at were around the 7-14 day mark.
They were also pretty big money. Some of them comparable to doing a Nomad trip.
I'm sure there are cheaper options around, but when I looked the time required and cost involved put me off, but if you find a viable option please share the results!
Price about the same but the period is at least four days (11 days versus 6.5) longer and the tips (not included) are much less than the US
Peacock Bass and the Amazon was mentioned when I was in Alaska two years ago and the concensus amongst the US fishos was that River Plate Anglers? (River Plate something ?) was a top operation but apparently some of the craft - hardly boats - you fish out of are "primitive" - still roughly $7,500 plus airfares is a once in a lifetime for most of us on here but arguable better value than Barra Base at Madingrida NT which is similarly as expensive
Yeh guys the prices are well up there because American booking agents are bumping up the prices by 50% and representing to own the boats which not always true.
If anyone knows a good local operator I would love some details
I'll be in Brazil in late September to early October and will also be heading out to the Pantanal Wetlands. I'll let you know if I find any cheap options for freshwater sportfishing in my travels.
Buz.
Have you thought about just giving Florida a go? You won't find any of the 3ft+ species but there's still trophy sized mono's and ocellaris with other good fw species. Plus you can chase bulls, blacktips and tarpon while your there.
If I was gonna make the effort to go all the way to Brazil I'd atleast be making the effort to land a fogo

I haven't been. But I have a few peacock bass swimming around my living room.
If they hit lures like they smash food in an aquarium they will be great fun. Always end up with a litre or so on my floor after a feed.

Msia's mining ponds are infested with these temensis. They do smash bait like there's no tomorrow.
They respond well to top water lures.
There are tour operators there.

When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

Actually cheaper than lodges in Alaska
