Metro Macks! Their still there!
We had a troll out behind West End on Tuesday the 5th for mackies managed a couple of hits but no hook ups, had a small window of opportunity with the weather Sunday morning the 17th so we decided to have another go at the Spaniards. Leaving Cockburn boat ramp at 5.15am we headed out to West End. Just south of west end we pulled up to get things organised the conditions were abit dark and gloomy heavily overcast and the water abit messed up with the light SW wind water temp reading 24.7 degrees. Got Yvonne behind the wheel while I set the rods and get my home made witch doctor (nick named the Moylator) in the water for its virgin trial. With my rod set I had just place the second rod into the holder and about to get the witch doctor in the water when my Live Fibre rod buckled over and the Tekota 700 started screaming after a good 10 minute battle and a couple of blinding runs my first metro mackie was on the boat!..Followed by some very loud Ye Ha's and a big squeeze for the girl.
Off we went again heading north out from west end not much happening that way so we decided to loop back and follow our track back to the mark where we got the first mackie my rod running a silver white red head X-Rap and Yvonnes rod a bluewater F18 white red head and now had the home made witch doctor in the water which was working a treat some really good flashing even in the overcast conditions. We had not gone far past the mark on the plotter when caos hit both rods were hit at exactly the same time, there I was trying to give Yvonne advice trying to fight my fish and keep it hooked up and get the witch doctor out of the water one handed when and as I could. After a good fight Yvonne had her first mackie at the boat but unfortunately threw the the hooks with a head shake. The fish I had on didn't want to know anything about coming near the boat it wanted to stay down deep and every time we got a glimps of colour it was off on another run eventually coming down to a slug out from one side of the boat too the other after about 15 minutes my second metro mackie was on the boat with on very shakey angler....With the first fish caught at around 7.15 and the second fish landed at around 8.00 and the conditions starting to get alittle worse we decide to head back into the sound and try Sulphur Bay GI for some squid we picked up 16 rather well sized squid in about an hour and a half and headed home to the ramp.
All in all we had a great day out
Chili squid and mackie steaks! Oh Yeah!

Block of wood .....
It's not as easy as you think! You have to get the weights right for it to tow down under your prop wash!

Yeah that teaser looks like it would do the job.
Good work on the makkies!
When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

Nice to know they are still
Nice to know they are still around good looking witch doctor I'd keep an eye on the rope where it attaches to the witch doctor I made my own last year and after using it a dozen times the eye wore through the rope and I lost it I'd probably attach a large swivel onto the rope where it attaches to the ring that's what I'm doing to my next one
