Metro Northern beaches report

Hit the beaches this morning between Jindalee and Alkimos, surprising lack of crazy 4 wheel drivers, usually there are quite a few people cruising the beach. Bit of a berley up with chook pellets and tuna oil...Lots of nice skippy, herring and sand whiting. Nice mixed bag all up for metro landbased. For anyone chasing an easy feed it seems to be firing quite well. Lots of dolphins and some good gutters. All caught on fresh squid.

The beach tracks are getting patrolled by rangers and police but I think they are looking for hoons more than anything else, also there is now a car park right in front of the Alkimos wreck and a bitumen road straight to it from Marmion ave. Easy access for anyone, please drive carefully if you are on the beach, there are quite a few younguns playing.

Cheers all.

4wd between jindalee and wilbinga

Sun, 2013-08-25 19:11

Rangers and Police are targeting 4wd and quads and bikes in these areas as reported in tne North Coast Times last week. The only legal area for 4wd is north of two rocks (at the moment) the rangers are handing out warnings and fine and cops will be checking road compliance .

They will be targeting all areas on long weekends and during the warmer months  , too many near misses reported and one fucking tosser caught trying to push over power poles with his 4b.

Access points to Wilbinga will be monitored .

If you are up this way fishing, please take your rubbish home , dont give the Rangers or Cops anything to complain about or we will be heading north of Wedge to have a fish.

Was up around Wilbinga last

Was up around Wilbinga last week. Place is a disgrace, smashed bottles and rubbish everywhere. Much as it frustrates me I don't imagine it will be open much longer.

I some times wonder if there is more sites like this can do to advance our own interests (apart from cleanups etc). I imagine the politics of it all would make it pretty difficult though.

Thanks

Thanks gents, agreed it is a disgrace about the rubbish. I have watched it degenerate into a tip site over the last few years. I know of quite a few aboriginal middens there that look to be thousands of years old, great fun to fossick through for ancient shells etc. Yellagonga would not have been impressed.

I am pretty sure most of the rubbish that is left is not from fishos, there is a lot of people too lazy or tight arsed to take their rubbish to the tip, I loathe and despise them for ruining a once pristine coastal ecosystem. You could fill a dump truck in the first 20 meters on almost any of the tracks.

Apologies for the rant, I could go on for bloody ages about these fools and how amazing that stretch of coast is. What price progress ?

irony...

Mon, 2013-08-26 16:02

A midden heap is a refuse site that is very old, in this case it is where they left empty shells after eating. They are easy to find this time of year as the rain has washed the tracks and you can see the piles of old burnt and broken shells. The irony is of course the original tribespeople (I think they were the Moro people) used the place as a tip site as well. I prefer to look at their rubbish than what is being dumped there now. Some of the abalone shells are massive.

As for a maiden heap....or maiden midden heap....refer to Northbridge on weekends or perhaps the Perth cup.
