Mid West Day Trip

With the weather looking good and a nice northern current hitting the mid west we decided a day trip was in order. Set off Thursday arvo and woke up to epic conditions Friday morn

Got to our destination on sunrise and started with a big sharkie and small Spaniard on the troll. Next strike thrashed on the surface and then took a 250m run right down to the backing on the little Trinidad 20A. Called it for a Wahoo and 15 mins later after a bit of chasing we sunk the gaff into a 28.5kg number. Pretty lucky with 100lb leader and no wire... Good start!

A couple more Spaniards and a little yellowfin rounded out the trolling then we jumped in for a go with the straight hook.

Vis was pretty average around 12-15m and plenty of noahs including a couple of 10ft tigers but they were being fairly well behaved. Macks were in abundance and we put some nice models up to 23kg in the boat.

Next onto the jigging and some old faithfulls were chokas with Dhus but after 4 way hook ups on two drifts in 55m we moved on to some coraal lumps and found the trout. The www.abrolhostackle.com.au jigs did all the damage on dhus, big trout and even a 6ft grey nurse which hit it on the move and had me guessing all the way up.

Headed for home mid arvo 33 knots all the way and back tot he ramp and in Perth by midnight!

Pretty impressed with my Madfish Fish bag which I keep tucked away on the boat in case of some surprise pelagics - fitted 6 big macks and the XL wahoo and kept them all nicely iced all night. Thumbs up for another WA company www.madfishgear.com

Well done guys, awesome little trip by the looks. Glad the long day trip payed off, it would suck going that far for just a day if you got skunked!

Curious as to far far north you guys were, would love to get into a few pelagics at the moment!
