Mooring / Anchoring overnight on River
Hi to everyone
This is my first post as a newbie to boating and fishing as well as the forum. My mission is to enjoy boating catch a few fish I can eat and have the family enjoy it as much as I am.
Enough rambling on.
I have a 32 ft cruiser moored at Hillarys and would love to bring it down to the River for Australia Day or other weekends for that matter, enjoy the day and then stay overnight before heading back to Hillarys the next morning. (There is no way on this earth I am navigating back through the river and back to Hillarys at night time).
Questions:
Can you anchor in the River overnight? (I must admit to thinking this is not the best option losing sleep worrying about dragging)
The public moorings state that they can only be used for 4 hours max, I guess this is policed and they would be taken pretty early?
Does anybody have any ideas as to how it can be done.
I appreciate any advice on offer.
Thanks
Evan

someone please correct me if im wrong but as far as i know you can anchor over night in the swan. if your worried about dragging, anchor in a protected place like a bay or set 2 anchors- one in the water and one on the beach.
i assume for aussy day fireworks you will be planning to hang around matilda bay/ city area?

sorry 'mate' i was just offering options.
just set your anchors right and it is easily done. the anchor on the sand is just to keep the back adjacent to the shore incase you want to swim.

yes many big boats anchor in
yes many big boats anchor in the Swan River. Often around Perth Waters or down near Matildabay and even around Blackwall Reach. Just make sure you out of main fery channel and have an anchor light on at night. Stick to the wider parts of the river and when in doubt call DPI, they will help.
Also around Claremont are some public moorings, and I'm sure you can use them overnight. They orange bouys if I remember, just go to DPI site and you can find them. I'd use one of them if you not sure about your anchor.

Thanks for the advice
Thanks for the advice everybody,Yes I was thinking around Matilda Bay and think it will be the go.
I draw a metre so probably will just use my main anchor as getting one back to the beach might be a bit too far. Ideally the orange buoys will be the way to go, might just have to get there early.
Thanks again everybody.
