Morning of 2/2/13 catch

Went out for a quick flick this morning.  The usual spot South Beach, land based, over a bit of a weedy patch.  After about two hours, saw a couple of dolphins about 50m offshore froliking which then affected the biting, so packed up and came home for brekkie.  Had a bit of a slick going.

A bit of a mixed bag.  All on bait (combination/selection of blue sardines, squid, blood worms).

Not sure what the 3 dark fish were but kept them anyway .

But that mean I wouldnt have kept them. I probably would have taken an ID photo and posted it. Have you got a more sideon view?

I am guessing weed whiting, but I dont remember them having those heads. If so mate good luck, they taste like crap.

Nice little haul there. The way the dark ones are built they look like a species of flathead to me.

Its a fingerlip Flathead, you get huge ones off Mandurah that go to about 80cm in deeper water, great eating.

Fingerlip Flathead, Yellowfin Whiting and Herring. Nice haul. But if your not sure what the fish is, dont take it. Could be crap eating and you have taken three big fish out the water for no reason.

The whiting are GREAT eating.

Oh Please, hook, line and sinker

Lighten up people, yes flathead and yes within legal limits.  I did not particularly want the exact species.  Fishing over weed patches you would assume these to be that colour for camoflage.  If I was fishing over sandy patches you would expect them to be more silvery in colour.

Surprisingly two of them were caught with blue sardines, the other with blood worm
