motor cutting out while idling and cutting out when put inot gear

Hi all, Im having an issue with my motor cutting out when idling, went out with my son this morning and the motor cut out whilst in nuetral, I went to start the motor and it started and then a few seconds later it cut out. this happened several times, i first removed the fuel line from the motor to ensure fuel was getting through which it was and then i pumped the line a few times and it did eventually start and we raced back to hillarys, could it be something simple as dirty fuel/ i do keep the tank full at all times and do have a water seperator on the boat which does show some sediment on the bottom is there an additive that can be added or should i empty the tank completely. My other thought was that there could be a blockage in the line somewhere, does the fuel have a filter that could bve blocked with sediment

thanks for any advice forthcoming

First check would be  the iac.

Undo the two bolts, disconnect the connector and then clean the little gauze screen with a quick spray of carby cleaner. Not too much.

Regarding the sediment in the water seperator. You should be replacing all the fuel  filters as part of your maintenance and certainly if you have any crap enter the tank.

There are 2 fuel filters on this engine plus the water seperator, there is one on the high pressure filter on the vst and the low pressure one.they both are very easy to change.

Start with the iac and see if that fixes it.

Old Honda issue with throttle body

Sun, 2019-11-03 21:33

I recall the old Hondas have an issue with the throttle body jamming/sticking and causing stalling.

Little Johnny had his son Luke's fixed - maybe he can shed some light.

 At idle the throttle blade

Sun, 2019-11-03 21:45

At idle the throttle blade is closed and all air going into the engine is  down the bypass thru the iac..

Check the iac on the throttle body..
