Mr Madeye cracks the 40cm bream

After reading about how well the kalgan was fishing for Mulloway myself and Ira decided to head down on Fri and try our luck.
I hooked up to what must have been a big fish on the Madeye Whippy Worm as line just peeled of the reel before the fish had even realised it was hooked. Once it woke up there was one big head shake and then the line went slack.
We tried for another 3 hours but couldn’t find the fish.

Sat morning Alex and Charlie teamed up in their boat while myself and Ira with Dan as our guide jumped in mine.
With a carton and a winners being able to take 1 lure out of the losers tackle box all of us were keen for a win.

Dan did his best to put us on fish but Charlie and Alex took us to school. It must have only taken a few minutes for Alex to push Charlie to the back of the boat. But Charlie was still out fishing him. 
When we left this was the biggest they had caught. Charlie got this on a Whippy Worm as well 

At 11 we decided we wernt going to find any big in the Kalgan so we headed off in search of my first 40.

After fishing a few different rivers for nothing but rats and the sun lowering in the sky we set up camp. Both of us had Whippy Worms tied on with 1/12th jig heads.
As we crusied down a fish section of river i was beginning to notice how much my casting had improved since getting back into breaming. I was quite chuffed as i put a perfect cast right in front of a nice looking snag. I counted the lure down to the bottom click over the bail arm gave one twitch and came up solid. This fish had some weight but lucky ran right into the middle of the river. After i managed to get its head up i finally caught sight of the beast as it rose from the coffee coloured water. I knew straight away this fish was over 40.
After a couple of tense seconds i had the fish in the net.
Some quick photos then onto the lie detector................43cm  and 1.35kgs

After a few more minutes it was Ira’s turn to catch a fish on the whippy worm. Once again this fish bolted straight for the middle of the river which made for an easy fight.
At 37cm it was another nice fish.

Things went quite and Ira suggested we try another drift but this time with Hards. I tied on a  Pontoon 21 Greedy Guts 55 MDR
And cast it parallel to the bank. Once again my rod bent over. Not as much weight as the first fish but it certainly wasn’t something to sneeze about. We forgot to mesure it but in the well i looked slightly bigger than Iras so proably around 38.

With it nearing lunch and a big drive ahead we decided to pull the pin. I was extactic with the results.

Big thanks to Ira for putting me on my first 40 and Dan for being our guide for the day. Also Charlie for his hopsitalty as usual. We had a great time with the Albany guys talking crap and trading stories. Alex also tied on the “Secret Rig” that caught me my 43. Ill certainly be back 

Cracking the 40cm on a bream is something I haven't achieved yet. Nice work, great fish.

Nice bream, even nicer in the frypan.  The Kalgan usually produces, looks like the Albany weather was kind to you too.
