MUST SEE! DONT dig the Moore river sandbar!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We decided to head back to Moore river for a proper fishing session. No photograhy just solid fishing. I took my camera just in case i got the “Big one”.  Little did i know that my fishing was about to be interrupted in a big way.

As were were fishing we seen a few guys walk down on the sandbar and start digging at the sandbar with there feet. I knew straight away what was about to happen! Didnt take long before a guy stormed down and let loose at the guys, yelling at them as he tried to stop the trickle of water that was now running out of the river and into the sea. The guy gave up and it had now begun.

The guys left and now within 10 min the water was starting to flow harder. Little did i know how full on this was to become and that someone was going to come close to losing their life. Some their guys came running down carrying boogie boards and were yelling and jumping with joy. I was thinking ” Why the hell are they so happy, it wont flow much harder then this let alone hard enough to surf on. Boy was i wrong.

I got back to fshing then 10 min later i looked over and it was now acually flowing hard enough to surf to i got over there with my camera and snapped away. Good bye fishing time haha Photography took over yet again!

Incredible stuff!

Thought the picture of a bloke and his toddler and a women holding a baby (I think?) standing right up on the edge of the raging tempest just a tad disconcerting. Wouldn't have taken much for that sand to suddenly give way and then tragedy result.

I wouldnt really say lunatics. More just thrill seekers. Probably more a lunatic if you cant swim/weak swimmer. I wonder if the article would have been titled differently if it had of broke naturally and they just took advantage of it rather than them obviously helping it break.

Its a very common thing to do around the world when ever a river breaks into the ocean, whether naturally or helped.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MaCSXX1KxH4\

I have seen the same thing down at the Mouth of the Margaret River people bodyboarding/bodybashing down the waves. Even at Denmark where the local council cut it with an excavator as Wilson Inlet was getting so high it was getting close to houses doors on the shore. Surfers and bodyboarders took advantage of it there.

I myself was fortunante in 2006 while Salmon fishing down at Yeagarup to come across the Warren River mouth just after it burst. I reckon we only just missed it by like 2 or 3 mintues as it was only 1m wide when we came upon it and there was no one in sight so i dont think anyone would have dug it out. In saying that it didnt seemingly flow quiet as hard or as steep as the Moore River. Heap of fun!, even though we didnt have any bodyboards we improvised with a couple of literal esky lids.
