Got my first ever sailfish out of dampier on Wednesday to say that I am stoked is an understatement still smiling.
Also had a bit of a bottom bounce an pulled in a nice double header. Massive thanks to pricey (pricey10 fw) for taking me out and putting us on to quality fish.

Great fish
I will be heading to Dampier in a weeks time which will be my first ever trip up there. If you have any tips for catching anything like that it would be greatly appreciated. Cheers in advance for any help.

For sailfish, troll some
For sailfish, troll some skirts around the ships which are anchored waiting to come in for their cargo. Always have a live bait rigged and ready to pitch at the sails when they come into the spread trying to grab your lure. 95% of sails are caught on live baits
If you find a patch of sails, drop a couple livies down (bridled on circle hooks) and wait for the sails to bite. do not "strike hard" using circles.

Well done mate! Glad you enjoyed it. Northbank it well worth having a skipping gar out in your spread to and plenty of teasers always stirs them up a bit to. Ill see ya out there mate

Yeah, skipping gars are
Yeah, skipping gars are better than lures, but if you are inexperienced rigging them I reckon just use pushers and keep watch for the sail / bill following your lure.
If you dont have any teasers, there are inexpensive ways to make up one with CDs and reflective floats.

tasty double header!
tasty double header!
When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.
