My New Dinghy :)

Picked up this tinny today, its a Quintrex Bass 3.8m with a 15hp Mercury (2006). Motor starts first pull :)

Just confirming, the ratio for the petrol/ oil is 50:1 for a standard 2 stroke?

Anyway, it has extremely good deck space, and is a simple rig which is what i was looking for.

And would the engine run of muffs or is the engine too small?

Cheers in advance and can't wait to get stuck into some fish!

Yeah 50:1 fuel ratio. Muffs

Yeah 50:1 fuel ratio. Muffs should be ok as long as they are a snug fit over the intakes and turn the tap on full so it forces the water in. With such a small motor I used to have a plastic drum to flush the motor. Tidy unit what did you pay for it?

thats what i thought but the bloke i bought it off said that you could only use a bin or drum because the muffs didnt work...

Paid just under $4000 with a bit of negotiating. came with a brand new epirb, flares, 4 good life jackets, ski rope, knee board and a decent anchor with 50m rope, and the bloke even gave me a bucket full of tackle (handlines etc), So it came with alot of extras.

pretty sure the water intake

Sun, 2012-06-17 19:41

pretty sure the water intake is below the cavitation plate (is on the mariner 15), my old man made up a connection for his 15 mariner to allow you to flush it without a drum of water.

That's a pretty good deal

That's a pretty good deal Bruce with all the goodies. They really hold their value. I had a 4.2 Stacer with a 30HP Mariner that I paid $5500 for still under warranty and sold it 3 years later for $5000. Like someone said you can do lots with the fitout. Enjoy it and look forward to some reports.

i've been looking at milsey's fitout of his dinghy, and will put in a floor with a hatch for below floor storage. Also want to fit a front casting deck with dry storage underneath. Been thinking about a live well/ eskie inside the front seat to keep fish in and hopefully alive. And adding the bits and pieces like cleats, rod holders, sounder...
