Before you drill holes in your beloved ski i have attached some pictures of the way i setup my transducer. Yes you can cut the cable it comes down to sheilding the wires.

Looks great
Just finished installing mine and I put the transducer in the bottom of the hull just forward of the motor ..... The big test is tomorrow at Jurien !!!!!!!
