Need advise on Weco or better portable freezers

Hi All,

Need some advise on a purchase of waeco or other brand fridge/freezer.  Looking for the one with two seperate sections, freezer one side then fridge section other side.  Money isn't a problem.

When we get the new 4x4 it has a plug in the back section for a fridge, adaptor build in. runs when you are driving, and turns off fridge when motor stopped.

Went to BCF in Cockburn shopping complex, didn't have much of a variety of waecos or other brands to look at, in fact the whole store looked like it need stock.

Thanks

Roberta

Engel

IMO   Engel would have to be the first choice as their low current draw and compressor motor that works at every angle is the best option

Waeco

I have had a Waeco 60ltr for 3 years and is great. I got a twin Zone on top so I can freeze bottom section an the fridge section on top. Is lighter than Engel. Try ranger camping.

Hi everybody

Fri, 2011-01-07 14:34

Went out today and bought the 57lte fridge/freezer Engel, and a big104lte Ice Cool Ice Box and BCF throw in the protective cover for the Engel.  Ruddy hell didn't notice how dear the cover was for the Engel $225, glad I got it free.

Thanks for all your advice,  it sure looks big sitting in the back of the 4x4 prado and the new 104lte Cool Ice Box.

Getting things ready for the big drive north to Broome at the end of May.

Once again thanks for your advice, most appreciated.

Roberta do a search

Wed, 2010-10-06 15:19

I recall a similar question some time ago now and there were a number of comments pro and against from people who appeared to know what they were talking about.  More of a technical review if you like.

I've had both and would hand

I've had both and would hand over the money again for another Engel. Bear in mind that you need to go to their bigger sizes for the fridge/freezer, whereas Waeco seem to have that option in the smaller sizes, albeit the fridge/dairy compartment is pretty small. Also Engel sell a additional fridge "top shelf" that slides on where the original lid goes, and this runs as the fridge while the bottom half is the freezer. I just did a search but couldn't find it, someone may know a link to describe it better.

Another Option

Fri, 2010-10-08 12:39

I have the National Luna 50L Weekender, it has 40L firdge & seperate 10L freezer compartment. They are more expensive but in my honest opinion they are worth it, you can utilize the full internal section(cooling plates are built into the walls, not inside the fridge like Engels)...works very well in the heat up here in Port Hedland, we have compared it with my mates 40L Engel and runs more efficiently, external aluminium with stainless inner construction. Freezer runs 10 deg cooler than the fridge setting automatically, invertor is used to reduce start up current, 3 automatic voltage cut off levels to choose from and also has a Boost setting to pull down Temp really fast!. Danfoss compressor and weighs in at 22.6kgs which is less than the Engel.

I agree for the price Engels are bloody good, but if you have the dollars to spend I would go for the National Luna.
