Mate, one thing you wont get on this site is GPS co-ords. Really, it is a bit rude to ask, and just imagine how smashed those spots will get.
Ask for general locations, depths, etc and you will get a wealth of info from here. Then you gotta go out and do the hard work like we have all done. Took me a year to get my first reliable demersal spots, now much easier.
Get down near the end of the breakwater, spread the fingers of either hand so they point out to sea. Now pick a finger and take a direction from where its pointing and follow it, sooner or later you will find some bottom. If its a South African's bottom you find, then you've gone too far!!
ease up on him guys, he just wants to catch some fish......
What fish are you after mate? All the good eaters are protected right now im pretty sure. Depending how far you go out. Fish some good sand patches and get some nice whiting.....Or even burley up in 10-15m of water and have some fun with skippy.
I used to have a bit of luck chasing yellow fin whiting off the beaches on calms days down around BP beach. Start there and walk south looking into the clear sandy patches between the reef, you can usually spot them.
if you head out the cut and starrting heading towards binningup along the beach there are a few reefs of there in bout 8-12 meters off water find them, sit one them and berley up. you will get every thing from whiting, skippy, rat sambos, flatehead, mulloway if your game to stay out at night and in snapper season you catch some good fish there. hope my advice helps......
Try out around the where the ships anchor or a bit north from 10 to 20mtrs,there are plenty of lumps to be found mate ,use your sounder and plenty of burley. You will pick up KG's small Dhu and pinks all in season of course.
taken the tinny out in bunno a few times but never get anything...
i need to get a sounder for it so i can find good ground! what would you blokes recomend in the way of a sounder for a little 14 footer? i dont really want to spend too much - ive seen little portable ones for like $100 but im wondering if its better to spend an extra $100 and get something a little more substantial?
while im here and typing - you guys mention charts! where can i get one from? i might have a hunt through the search on here and see if i can find out about them - so far it has always been a total stab in the dark when i go out in a boat! my results show that haha
Hey gumnut, all the boat shops sell hard copy charts mate, try Sportsmarine or Millards. As for your sounder i would look at getting a small colour 1, mate of mine just put a Garmin 550 in his tinny,i think he paid around $550 for it at the Mandurah boat show and it works a treat. For the price you are talking about you would probably get a black and white sounder. Also you can buy the Navionics chart on line, then you check it out before you go same as hard copies and cost about the same $30 i think. Get hold of a small hand held GPS as well.
thanks mate, i will have a look and get one of those charts!
yeah its a crappy old boat and i dont really want to spend heaps on the sounder. is a black and white one ok? is the advantage of a colour just that its easier to see in the sun?
Black and white will be ok to find the lumps etc, colour is better to see the density of the fish under the boat, turn your boat around if the sun is an issue LOL, any screen with the sun directly on it will be hard to see. Good luck tight lines.
Nothing wrong with a black and white sounder once you get to learn how to read it. Watch the "grey line" to indicate changes in bottom hardness rather than looking for edges and lumps
