Need HELP: Sounder Photos
Submitted by beau on Tue, 2011-07-12 20:39
Went out this morning for a quick snapper bash before work at the same spot as i got last weeks fish. Had no luck all morning but thought i had found the Snapper motherload a couple time when these started showing up on my sounder. This is only the 3rd time ive used the sounder so still trying to get the hang of it, so just wondering what your opinions are and if your sounder lit up like this would you get excited or keep on driving? Only tried plastics on these schools with no hits coming from them. I thought most bait would be schooling closer to the top but thats what im putting it down to. Your thoughts?

Looks like bait schools to me. ( im no expert tho ) But were there is bait usualy big fish are around, good spot to drop a placstic or bait.
Yeah a good sounder will show your rig very clear on the way down. First time i saw it on my sounder i knew it was working better than i thought.

Sounder pics
Hi Beau
My first thought was 'bait ball'....but the interesting thing in the 1st and 2nd photo is the thin band of red that's just above the bottom. To me, that says 'school of fish'....in the 2nd photo, its in the centre of the screen, just above the bottom.
When we were fishing at Jurien over Easter, we had a similar image appear on our sounder, a thin band of red just above the bottom and my daughter hooked a double header of pink snapper. We were so excited about the action on deck that I forgot to photograph the image on the sounder.
I'm interested to hear the thoughts of the seasoned sounder members here.....just another case for my drop down camera, which should be here next week!

i'd of said bait with some bigger fish hanging above and below!
If I spent half as long fishing , as I do reading this bloody forum , I'd be twice the fisherman I am.

Next time, drop down a bait
Next time, drop down a bait jig and see what happens. Might even fill the freezer with bait for next time.

Yep, lots of bait fish and a few proper fish below. We normally see pretty good arches on pinkies, but it is sounder specific.
I would certainly be dropping a few placcies into that sort of sounder reading though.
Just cause there is fish there, does not mean they will bite.......especially plastics. Keep plugging away, and DONT resort to bait!!!!!![](http://fishwrecked.com/sites/all/libraries/fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/msn/wink_smile.gif)
