Fishing Kalumburu
Hey guys,
Firstly I'll introduce myself, My names Alex and I'm from Melbourne, into surf fishing for anything big or delicious, occasional trout fisherman but since I started regularly catching LB gummy sharks 2-3 years ago I hardly venture any near fresh water, I'm pretty much dedicated to fishing sharks LB around Westernport. Ive also recently made the trip over to Yalata on a bit of a surf-safari with some mates and had a great time.
Ok, So I'm heading up to Kalumburu in a couple weeks for work, can anyone spare some advice on a good charter boat (I realise they dont supply any tackle) Also, I'm hoping to fish after I knock of work, what are the LB options like up there?
Il be taking three outfits up with me:
*3-7kg spin outfit
*10-15kg spin stick
*40lb surf outfit
Taking a whole bunch of metal slugs, plastics, x-raps & poppers as well as the usual array of leades/sinkers/cirlce hooks.
Any help, hints, tips, advice etc to make my trip more enjoyable would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Alex

Kalumburu
Depending on how much, if you have ever met the little pissers, they affect you and you go out in the evening or night , watch out for the sand flys.
Besides all the normal northern fish, sharks, seasnaks etc, there is big milkfish--- small mouth no teeth but supposed to take a bread bait or fly (sight fishing). If you can actually get one on , the word is they go turbo charged.

Alex T,
Not sure where you are staying/camping - McGowans or Honeymoon Bay just out of Kalumburu have beaches and you should get sharks etc with the big outfit. Get use of a dinghy out of McGowans and fish the reef not far off shore for all northern species. Troll lures for the macks etc.
On the road from the community out passed the airport there is a turn off to a small gorge with good ledges, deep water for flicking lures. There used to be an old washing machine on the corner of the main track - hence locals call it "the washing machine". There are great ledges to walk along and flick lures - Rattling Spots are good because the gorge is deep - little trevally, barracuda, fingermark, barramundi etc.
There is also a poor track that leads west out of McGowans to an excellent oyster field with good muddies under most of the rocks - only good on the low tide of course - and good luck getting someone to show you where that is!!
Enjoy.

I dont know how to beging
I dont know how to beging describing the shitness of your reccomendation PGAY.
Do me a favour and point out where in my post I asked for help in finding Broomes best skull dragging amateur hour experience.
The charter was a complete waste of money and time, MAYBE you would reccomend it to a pensioner aged complete novice, and only if you had it in for them.
As for reccomending it to someone with a stated background in fishing who actually took the time to post on a local FISHING forum, WTF??? are you on a commission??? Im sure the Broome tourst information centre would have given better advice than you.
FAAAAAARRRRRRKKKKKK you PEESPRAY, You owe me $280 and 7 hours of my life back.

That's not nice
It's one thing to go off about someone's information - but it's downright rude to attack him personally, and call him names - eg PGAY and PEESPRAY... he didn't even say he's an Eagles supporter...
Manners are still important in this world, and will get you a lot further than a lack of them will.
I think you owe PJAY an apology...
Save the Whales! May as well - they won't fit in my catch bag!!!

well what can i say
well what can i say Alex.......both times in Broome and Mandurah they put us on the fish.......obviously not on your trip. You certainly know how to win friends and influence people???
How easy is it to be a keyboard commando on here and hide behind a computer? Next time if you don't want advice given to you in good faith then dont F*&^ing ask for it!!
As far as your $280.....go jump and dont expect a reply to any other stupid comments, you had a bad experience so get over it.

I'll go out on a limb here
and say, that reply directed at Pjay is BS. If you don't want peoples thoughts etc - DON'T ask!! Who's to say Pjay didn't have a good experience - I think someone needs to get over themselves..![](http://fishwrecked.com/sites/all/libraries/fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/msn/regular_smile.gif)

OMG
I might be very careful about helping someone out in the future that I dont know. Have to admit I LMAO at the spray, but then I felt for Pjay just trying to help out. That is the best I have seen for awhile and I am glad I am not on the receiving end. As mentioned above, if you are going to do this when your experience dont live up to expectation, do your own F$@#@$g ground work and dont ask!!!!

Its good to get feedback ...
Don't know guys, if he had a bad experience, its better that he tells us, isn't it? I'd certainly be trying to find out if more people have good or bad experiences on that charters, before I'd consider it myself.
I don't really think you need to say "thanks can I have some more please kind sir" for a bad experience.
Maybe could work on a slightly less alienating delivery though ;)

with what your saying absolutely - I don't think it's a case of being too precious though, when one reads his opening two lines. Where's the respect gone for people trying to help.![](http://fishwrecked.com/sites/all/libraries/fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/msn/thumbs_up.gif)

Certainly a fair spray there!
Certainly a fair spray there! I know Pjay and can certainly vouch there was no funny business going on with his recommendation. Dont ask for opinions if you dont like the outcomes. Who would have thought one could have such lofty expectations?

Good respones.
Fair to say my crack was a bit over the top, but that in itself is both a good venting and a laugh to help me get over the 7 hours I spent wishing I was siting at beach enjoying a frothie rather than untangling my line from the peanuts next to me for the one BILLIONTH TIME!!!
Kalumburu on the other hand - simply awesome...boated more fish myself in one hour in the tinnie than all 10 of us did after 7 hours on the charter.
Saddle tail, black jews, GTs and not much else, all within 2km of the beach. The fishing is best explained by the fact that the locals gave up on 24kg gear because they were sick of breaking rod tips
