New 80lb spin jig rod

On the look out for a good 80lb spin jig rod to match with a stella 20000. I'm 6'3" so i'd be looking for something with a good length butt/foregrip.

Anyone have any good suggestions.

The Jigmaster is about 5'10"

Wed, 2006-08-09 23:07

The Jigmaster is about 5'10" long or was it 5'6".....forgot.
Its one piece and its short enough for storage. 2pc is pointless at that length. It has chrome framed SiC guides and Tip. As for grip length...main thing is to have the gimbal behind your arm pit when U have the rod underarm. Prices Im not exactly sure......but around the $400 somewhere. Drop in and check them out. Ive ordered myself 2 and Gribbo's taken 1 and theyll be more around.

Hi John,

Thu, 2006-08-10 08:44

Hi John,

I've got the T-Curve 400 spin and a Stella 20000 combo, good strong outfit for jigging, can bottom fish with it and chuck big arse poppers out of the boat.

I've got a "jigging guy" building for my shop "Jigmaster" by Oceanside and these rods as Honsu mentioned are good, I've got one already and yeh Honsu & Gribbo are getting them also.

Jigwrex, I'm seeing them at the AFTA show this weekend in QLD, I'm doing some deals with the East Coast tackle suppliers and scoping out what's really out there as in WA we dont see all the available wholesalers.

Cheers

Oceanside Jigmaster custom rods!

Thu, 2006-08-10 19:54

John,

Today I just got my new Jigmaster rod rated at 50-80lb with a dead lift of approx 30kg.

I get them custom made for my shop and they're awesome, enough to even convince Honsu in getting a few so that says alot.

I've got them here mate, we can get custom binding and butt wraps but I prefer the way they come as standard IMO and that's what I went for!

They have all fuji componets, silicone guides etc and they are made buy a repuatable jigging man in Perth that jigs alot!

Pop in and see them, priced similar to the jig wrex but custom made in Perth....I've bought for me (my use) the 30-50lb and the 50-80lb.....very parobolic and puts pressure on the fish not the angler, hense why I'm moving over to these "Jigmaster" rods over my T-Curves!

Fishwrecked & FWA members receive a discount on these rods!

Cheers

ouch? you have tempted me to leave my hole and come and have a look... as long as it doesnt snap! :o

testing testing ryan? =D

otherwise I can try to break honsus =)
If its 30kg dead lift, then I think I'll be on my backside first, due to line snapping, than rod breaking. *ouch!* They really hurt!

Jigmaster rods!

Thu, 2006-08-10 20:21

Mav the blank is from Taiwan and Jigwrex blanks are from Indonesia.

K.C, I've just checked the dead weight rating, it's not far off 30kg, it's actually 27kg and tested in Perth also,I'm not wanting ppl to go silly and push the limits as rods should be used in the natural environment so dead weight lift shouldn't be a challenge IMO

Yeh use Honsu's hehehe :)

Looks interesting Honsu. Quite a parabolic curve and a bit of exposed butt blank for extra style!

Have any of these rods been used in anger on Sambo's yet? If so how did they perform.

You'll have to ask Ryan about this as he took a 50lb'er one to Exmouth. And I'll be using both 50lb and 80lb spin ones this season on sambos and other critters.

I make that 20lb in laymans terms , it doesn`t look like it could handle much more and yet Ryan said it has a 27 kg deadlift . I think I am confused and need some further enlightening from you experts.

27kg is its absolute limit

Sat, 2006-08-12 19:18

27kg is its absolute limit and is tested under lab conditions. I wouldnt compare lifting weights to fighting fish. And if that was 20lb of drag.....its plenty for reels thats not a Stella, Saltiga or a Van Staal.

Stella

Sat, 2006-08-12 20:12

Al has his Stella on a jigwrex PE8 rod and can't break it with 80 Lb Varivas .

I'm putting my Stella 20000 ( 80 lb Varivas) on a Tcurve 400 deep jig , and probably get a Van Stall rod later or a jig wrex , I'll be leaving it till the end of jigging season before deciding .

I have the luxury of trying out a few before having to decide .

I'll try

Sun, 2006-08-13 10:12

Like I said before , as Al tests for companies I can't just go and give a report on rods , I may be able to I don't know , I have an agreement with Al , as long as he doesn't say keep this to yourself , I am allowed to talk about it , there a few things happening I am NOT allowed to talk about but most of it is OK .

Before I put a report up I'll check with him , this is the only site I will put it up on anyway , the other sites don't really want to talk all things fishing , more into jokes and buddies lists , it's good but some people take it too far and joke around all the time.

CHEERS , MAV.

Jigmaster Rods!

Tue, 2006-08-15 17:26

That combo that the boys have in the pic is mine, they do pack a punch as mentioned before and will deadlift 27kg as it's been tested.....that pic isn't showing the full load, just a working curve!

I and my jigging rod builder dont want ppl to make this a challenge as you dont benefit from deadlift, get onto a sambo and the rod will work with ease!

This rod put's more pressure on the fish and less on the angler, I'm using mine very soon at the barges, I'll give you a full run down and some pic's too!

I've just come back from the QLD AFTA Fishing trade show where I saw all the "New" National & International products ie Shimano Jigwrex & Blue rose rods(nice), New 2 speed Trynos reels, New Electric reel for Shimano and the New Bushi spiral wrap baitcaster rods called T-Curve Flight.

Rapala have released the New Braid concept rods that are awesome and will be well received also. Penn has a new 9500ss SSM reel, the Penn Torque jigging reel is nice, plenty more New stuff being released from many other wholesalers but you'll just have to wait, I'm buying a fair bit of all this New stuff, gonna sell well me thinks.

Cheers

New Shimano electric!

Tue, 2006-08-15 19:21

Yeh Shizza the Rapala rods are very nice, cosmetics look like the Blue Rose and the price is good, the range will go well this season IMO

The electric reel is one model only called the "Dendou Maru" 50lb & 600yds approx.

S/S gears, LCD screen, line counter and is 12v or used as a conventianal reel if required. Perfect for the shelf fishing (200m plus)stuff IMO and will sell as ppl are going deeper & deeper these days!

Cheers

Blue Rose rods can be viewed on SE Asia Shimano site but what's going to be available in Aust is a little different!

Hi Ryan could you explain a bit more about how it'll be different? I hope its not like the 'twinpower' different... =(

To be honest, Daiwa and Shimano always seem have 2 markets: Japan, vs. the rest of the world. And you can take a guess which market seems to be... a bit higher in the balance

Correct!

Yes correct K.C Blue Rose has been out for a while but just too expensive for the Australian market but as jigging has become so big so has the need for more & more up market jig sticks!

There's not much difference, can't so much more until they're in ;) ;)

PS: The struddy jigsticks have been out for a couple of months. I personally have seen them in the flesh but I cant comment anymore other then its got balls. Parabolic like Jap rods and lightweight. If you like their bream sticks you'll love this even more.

No, although from what I gather, they might all made at the same OEM factory,

Not Expert Graphite or G-tech. And NOT JM blanks at that price =)

New rod

Mon, 2006-10-09 23:15

Well I initially started this thread to find an 80lb spin jig rod.

Today I finally picked up a 50-80lb jigmaster from Oceanside, complete with blue binding to match my stella.

Look forward to jigging up a storm with it in the near future.

John

Jigmaster rod by Oceanside

Tue, 2006-10-10 21:06

Nice rod you got John, wait till ya see it work when fired up in anger.......they're awesome!

Ashley McKintosh (Ex eagles) saw my own personal 50-80lb Jigmaster spin rod and wanted to buy it sooooooo I took his money and waved good bye to it :(

I'm getting another one made but ATM my rod builder cant keep up with customer rods let alone me jumping infront....gotta pull rank perhaps hehehe :)
