new beach combo wtb

Hi

My fishing buddy who doesnt have a computer had some severe malfunctions with his gear on the weekend and is in the market for a new surf combo.

he is looking at a penn 950ss reel when they are on special again and the rod would have to be at least 12ft 15kg  mostly to target tailor and mullaway.

anyone have any suggestions on a rod for spending $100 to $200

cheers

i will post up my s bend pics later

dunno if there still on special but he had uglystick platinums for $100. thats bout half price. 12ft. dunno bout kg. but did you know you can only pull about 3kg through a 12ft rod anyway. and the higher poundage (mono) you go the shorter your casts will be. I use 8kg mono off the beach and havent pinged off once to a fish.

yeah another of my mates bought one of those.  they seem pretty good.

8kg is way too light if you are casting grapnel sinkers like we do 25kg is the go so you can throw the weight really hard into a stiff south wester

8oz grapnel no prob

mate i have one of those 12 foot ugly stick platinums paired with penn 950 using 50lb mono. and just like you said throw alot of 8oz grapnels to slide fairly big bait for sharks and rays.

Quality rod for the price and i paid about 160 for it. If you can still get one for 100 bucks i say go for it.

the shimano baitrunner 6500b

the shimano baitrunner 6500b is a far superior reel for the same price. I recenlty just purchased one, spooled with 300m 30lb braid and 40lb mono backing and leader.

Its matched with a Calstar Grafighter Casting 10' 20-50lb 1pce rod.

Just my recomendation!

What about the Rovex Bario 12ft,rated 15-30lb,around $130.Have got a 10ft and 11ft,great rods for the price, really light, have used them for 3-4 years without any problems.(also match up well to the Penn ssm reels, use an 850 on mine).Hope this helps.
