new breaming reel

 Hey guys,

Going to get a new reel for smaller stuff, a strict $300 budget.

Will mainly be used for tosing small lures for bream and flathead, and also in the kayak for whiting and small kingies.

Ideas atm are:

Shimano Stradic ci4 1000

Shimano Twinpower 1000

Daiwa Caldia 1500

Any others that might be suitable and any reveiws on these reels would be greatly appreciated

Cheers, Andrew

I just bought a Penn Conquer

I just bought a Penn Conquer 2000 for 100 bucks. For that price it has to be considered along with the others.

Of the three mentioned I rate the Twinpower much higher than the others. The Stradic is a great reel performance wise but you are paying a little extra for the weight reduction and it will not last as long in a Kayak situation than the TP will.

I thought the Twinpower would be out of the Strict $300

Budget. If not and I stand corrected dont even think twice. I have the CI4 but 4000 and love it, but its not a Twinpower's rear end IMO.

The new Caldia 2506w are nice

Thu, 2011-09-01 21:33

The 09 Caldia 1503, 2004, 2506, 2506w are nice. Shallow spooled and the 2506w with the W handle for some finesse.

though it IS less drag than the 2500 and 3000 but im not sure you'll be needing it.

1503, 2004 = 2kg

2506, 2506w = 3kg

2000, 2500 and 3000 have deeper spool so its a little heavier but has 4, 7 and 7kg drag.

They're fitted with daiwas Real 4 engine as well which is on the higher daiwa reels so they're smooth as.

ANND they look nice in pearl white. The shallow spool models look waaay nicer with that mirror black and burnt orange spool.

Should be able to find them for around 200 or just over depending on model.

You can spend that last 100 on line =D

I wonder if the 2506 spool

Thu, 2011-09-01 21:37

I wonder if the 2506 spool would fit straight on a 2500 though, that be nice to have the best of both worlds...

Sounds nice, wont need too much drag anyway.
Are the caldia's better than a twinpower? and i would like to know if they last in a saltwater environment when on the yak?
