Gents,
Has anyone used the new Bundegi boat ramp yet? Is it finished yet, is it still a shocker? Any info welcome!

yeah, pity its one lane
but it is an elevated and long ramp, so that wouldve been a much bigger project. The ramp is great, I dont know yet whether the drop off at the end of it is affected by low tides ? Next time i'm down there i'll post a couple of pics cheers

tide
Keep an eye on the tides, anything under .4 of a meter generally means a sandbar at the back of the ramp and big boats can't launch or retrieve an hour or so either side of low tide.

as long as the tide isnt too low
and you have to back down too far onto the sand, you'll be right. but I guess it depends on what you class as a "small" alloy....

Bundegi
the only other thing to be aware of Paul is the possability of "bottoming out" on the top of the ramp if you have a long and relatively low trailer. I was down there a few weeks ago and saw some bloke get stuck with the trailer wheels on one side of the "peak" of the ramp and the vehicle on the other. He'd put the boat in at the marina and went to pick it up at bundegi only to have to put it back in the water again and go back to the marina (where the ramp must have a less steep apex). I've seen heaps of boats come and go and this is the first one I've seen have this problem - but it's worth being aware of especially if you have a low trailer (or low tow vehicle) and a long distance from the hitch to the wheels.

tantas commodore
Any 2 wheel car is asking for trouble launching retrieving at Tantas, sure it can be done, but its a fine line between success and failure. As people retrieve water empties from the trailer onto the slope causing tyres to spin and no traction.
I had to sit at tantas for 13 months for work and there weren't too many that made it out with a 2wd car, except on very high tide and being one of the first back to the ramp. Having said that, it can be done easily, you just need to know what your doing with a snatch strap on standby.

also with bundegi ramp , if
also with bundegi ramp , if the wind picks up it is hard to get the boat right on the trailor and even harder if the current is flowing fast. we were up there last year and found the ramp was good in the reasonable conditions but awkward in the sloppy stuff with a current

Exmouth!
2wd, agree with Adam re Tanda's but yes high tide and "light" tinny with bog mats under trailer more likely!
As for Bunda's, good compared to what was there before but the water slap from the easterly is the big pain in the butt when from that direction & launching a smaller boat!
Will be up there same time Paul, stayin for 2 weeks =)

Cheers for all the input
Cheers for all the input guys. I heard yoú'd be up there Ryan around the same time, I tend to agree with most guys that Bundegi can be a pretty bad start to the day, however the tides are mostly low early morning and late arvo's for the period were going to be up there..........so I'd say it will be a circus at some stage whether its Tanta's or Bundegi we use, haha.

Bodie , if you thinking of mooring your rig why dont you enquire about mooring it Bundegi ramp area with some of the other rigs there and then easy access to the islands
